This is so dope. A 10 minute skate from my apartment. I am so stoked right now.

Might have to skate it to get an educated opinion but a lot of that stuff looks goofy, sort of like the tribeca park

Is this open?

Landscape architects really have no business designing skateparks, unless they are actually trying to build a pedestrian plaza on some private property.  I guess the giant vert quarterpipes-set perpendicularly to all the obstacles, of course-that were in the plans got nixed?  Or is that phase 2?

Wow, looks like a lot of stuff going on, but that's definitely an improvement.  Definitely heading there soon.

I was skating by there like a week ago and it looked like it had a long way to go still. Gonna check it when it's not 100 degrees out.

hard to tell from picks, but it looks like it would be a clusterfuck of kids running into each other.

That is the unifying design element to all of NYC's skateparks.  Its like they want us out street skating or something.

Looks sick. Hopefully when they tore up the old ground it got rid of the human feces that litters that place.

same thing happening out here in LA too. There's a trend in undersized street obstacles, almost as if they are designing parks not to be skated by anyone over 12. Perhaps that's why Stoner is so popular, it's one of the few street parks you can do lines without crashing into the next obstacle or scooter kid.

Improvement, remains to be seen give it a sesh or two atleast...The trend of these new parks with Astoria probably being the exception is smooth yet hard floor my board seem to last less (not that i care that much) but i also slam harder...LES lost all its character only the most dedicated dudes would skate LES, oily floor shitty compost next door an all...it kinda made everyone friends...i sense this park is gonna produce a ton of hostile street league wannabees and scooter kids..im already homies with a few bikers so fuck it...whatever it it's new, it's nice, ill see ya'll there tomorrow....

This.  Looks fun, but in nyc it's gonna be impossible to not collide with everyone.

TONS of new pics on NYSkateboarding.com - too many to post here.

http://www.nyskateboarding.com/2012/06/introducing-the-new-coleman-skate-park-2012/

Hope to see you guys out there...but anything in NY, especially opening day/weekend, is going to be jam-packed.

It seems like every time I went there it was Harold Hunter Day - I hope it doesn't feel like that everyday there now. Time will tell.

From the pics on nyskateboarding, it looks like the finished product came out significantly better than the plans I saw for this.  It will be fun to have a reason to go skating in that neighborhood again, what with the banks being closed and with so many spots having been ripped out down there this last year.  I won't be going anywhere near there today though.  Fuck all that.

Thanks for posting that link. Especially compared to what it was, this place looks amazing.

Unless real life responsibilities prevent it, getting there in the morning is always a way more enjoyable experience in NY.
