skated my first pair of lakai (marc) last night...took about half an hour or so to break in, but they seem like they are going to be rad.? the vulc wrap around the right shoe's toe was glued on crooked, but otherwise seem well constructed.? no uncomfortable seams inside the shoe and the mid-collar rests on my ankles in the perfect spots.? i'll see how they do over the next couple of sessions, but first impression is good.? i'm coming off skating almost exclusively Adidas for the past 5 years or so (with some scattered vans in the mix), and most recently the Buz ADVs, so in my mind, the bar has been set pretty high for the Marcs.? ?
Art - I am really on the fence with the Marc. With regard to where the collar rests on your ankles...in relation to your Adidas, do the Marc fit higher?
And given where they rest is there any support at all for your ankles?
Yes, the Marcs fit higher than the Buz Pro, Buz ADV, Adi-ease, Puig, and Silas2. They are not as tall as say, Half Cabs, but what they do do is provide some protection/support to that Bermuda Triangle of board hits in the area of your ankles front bursa sac. Does that make sense? I lace mine up to the top and it does give some extra support compared to a low, but not as much as fully lacing up a half cab. Based on my limited shredding in them, I like the odd height of them and they don't bother my ankles at all. You can also keep em pretty loosey goosey if you want. The back of the collar comes just about to the same place as the Buz ADV, maybe a bit higher, which has a high(er) back than most lows. Also, the ones I have are the nubuck leather, so I bet the regular suede feel better right out of the box.
If you are on the fence because you are looking for a supportive mid top, then maybe you should lean towards a proper mid. But if you are on the fence because you want something inbetween a low and a mid, then yeah, try 'em out.
Kinch is right that the stock insoles aren't bad. They may be a little bulky for my taste, but at least they seem to serve a purpose, which is better than the stock ADV insoles (i.e. cardboard/paper).
