its regular to have a law anywhere that says a gay couple is different to any hetero couple in any legal distinction.�
That's not what people intend when they say "let's legalize gay marriage". The laws that are currently on the books in most states DO make a distinction between heterosexual and homosexual partnerships. Pro gay marriage folks want to remove these distinctions.
