They didn't promote those other parts for months, throw them giant parties with theater premieres, and dedicate almost an entire issue of Thrasher to them. Besides, a caption on Thrashers website flat out said "David started the SOTY race.".

I was more mind blown after watching David's part than Figgy's the first time. I guess my vote is still for him.

David's part was on a different level than this one, not just talking about skating...the entire thing. It seems like every time someone says "Figgy SOTY" five more people repeat it.

I disagree, recent SOTY winners seemed to disappear from the face of the earth once the celebration is over. Aside from a couple things here and there, you really didn't see much from Grant, Leo, Silas, MJ, etc after they won.

Agree that this whole SOTY thing is given way too much airtime.

The list of guys who never got it, but should have compared to those who have of late pretty much renders the whole thing irrelevant. For a start Jamie Thomas and Chad Muska never won it. Those guys completely dominated the sport at the top of their game. And yet Thrasher awarded guys who no doubt 'deserved it' in their bias perspective.

It's no more serious than the other awards they give out for being a crybaby or smoking meth.

Part of that relates to the timing of their sponsors' projects, but it also takes a lot of work to get an soty trophy these days. Leo's board and she sponsors both released videos the year he got it. We weren't drowning in mj coverage until ff was close to release. Grant rips, but he went on like every thrasher trip last year for the maximum dose of phelpage possible. That type of shit just doesn't come together for everyone every year, and its unreasonable to expect it to. Silas is in every Adidas clip, cole is competing a lot, Daewon keeps putting out ridiculous amounts of crazy footage. It's good for different skaters to get it every year.
