Earth Hex repress preorder is up and very tempting - but I stopped buying vinyl a while ago and sold most of mine so I see no point really.

You know it's just kinda frustrating cause like 7 years ago when I was heavy into vinyl and going to the city every weekend digging for anything and usually not finding much - I recently was browsing through the vinyl area where I was selling off my records and they had fucking EVERYTHING and anything I could imagine - Boards of Canada, Electric Wizard ... shit that was really hard to come by if you didn't pick it up when it first came out. You kids got it easy now. Just sayin'. Have fun.

I see a lot of you guys have Crosleys and other terrible all-in-one turntables. Hit up craigslist and thrift store to buy vintage turntables, receivers and speakers. Be sure to get desired brands: Technics, Philips, Kenwood, Pioneer, Thorens, etc. Then, you can actually hear a difference in used analog records instead of wallowing in a hipster fad.

I have recently been adding some real rare records to my collection.

No Trend: self titled
VILE Solution: Original, Sealed
Drunkdriver: Born Pregnant Test Press
Homostupids: The Intern, Test Press
Pissed Jeans: Shallow
Shellac:1000 Hurts

I have been sifting through records I am not too stoked on any more and trading them in for credit towards some insane records that all through the door where I buy my stuff.

The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Destroyer - Kaputt
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, which my awesome Mom gave to me

aaand shit I blew it on in the name of saving money, which were both from the initial few rounds of pressing..

Anyone else grab the Lazaretto Ultra LP? Very cool features, the man is a genius.
So Colllin have the same t-shirts, seven years by now, at least...

Recent pickups from the summer:

Bowie-Scary Monsters (US pressing)
New Order- Low Life (US Qwest)
Electronic- Feel Every Beat 12" remixes (US promo)
VU & Nico (US 80s repress promo)
Bowie- Ziggy Stardust (OG US pressing)
Joy Division- Unknown Pleasure (German Metronome) -- sounds fantastic. if anyone finds this pressing, I would suggest picking it up versus the reissue

Is it just me or does anybody never find any Smiths at their local shops?

The record store I go to always has Smiths stuff, but they're what i'm guessing are reissues and between $30-$40 I never bother with them.

I third the emphasis of a quality turntable if you consider collecting records.

John Cale: Artificial Intelligence
John Cale: Paris 1919
Watery Love: Decorative Feeding

Record store in Philadelphia. Ton of punk, new wave, no wave, art rock, everything in between...

been buying records for about 8 years but have gotten pretty serious about it for about 4 years, to the point where
i have been skating way less.  for the past 5 months i've been making a living off slanging records and dee-jaying. here's
some of my digs. lots of jazz funk and soul, all og's. let me know if anyone here is trying to get rid of their collection too  ;)

Jazz Liberatorz are really good, but their stuff might be difficult to find in the US
(they're French)
conversely I ve never seen a Black Jazz record out here in Europe!

I'll be on the lookout now though.
Especially at Utrecht....I'm going to that huge record fair thingie in November, should be fun.

How do you guys store your records? I just keep them in my closet but id like to have them out but so they arent getting damaged. What's a good way that doesnt cost much money? (Not a crate)

how many do you have?  get the Ikea Expedit.  it's essential, and if you don't have many records you can use the extra space for books, dvd's, etc...  Target has a version of it, too

(just realized it's no longer called the Expedit, it's called the Kallax)

i bought my girlfriend a record player for valentines day. i went out to some thrift stores last weekend and picked up a few cheap records, put them in a bag, then put them in my trunk and forgot to take them out and she found them later that night. she put two and two together so i let her open it early and we've been having fun listening to records all week. its just a cheap jensen i got off amazon. im thinking that if we actually get into collecting records and playing them often, i'll spring for a decent player/receiver/speakers, but for now i think what we have is fine. we have her dads old record collection which is mostly crap, but a few good ones here and there. i was wishing my dad would've given me his since they havent been played in over 20 years, but when i hinted at it he didnt take the bait. weve bought a few so far and im talking my girl record shopping before we go out on valentines day, so hopefully we will be able to find some good stuff.

what ive picked up so far:

BTO II
a random Roy Orbison joint
Bowie: Lets Dance
Paul Simon greatest
Rolling Stones: Sticky Fingers
Smith: A group called smith
Joe Tex: Rub Down
and a few other randoms that i cant remember.

theres a pretty decent record store down the street from where i work and i was in there checking it out yesterday. they've got a huge selection of old r&b and jazz and tons of old motown and soul stuff. nothing really later than the 80 across the board though. since i was pretty much raised on rock, i dont really know shit about r&b and jazz, but i dig that kind of stuff, so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of records i could look for next time i stop in there.

sorry for the massive post. very slow day at work today.
