Wheels suddenly gone all soft?
« on: February 20, 2013, 12:32:01 AM »
so I bought a set of Big Girl wheels (55 mm). They were fine for a few sessions but yesterday at my local park, they suddenly felt like cruiser wheels: super soft and grippy, I couldn't powerslide or slide around on tranny (which is like half my "tricks" these days!).

Has that happened to anyone before? Is it just bad quality from Girl? any solution other than just buying new wheels? it's the first time this happens to me in 25 plus years of skating so I'm kinda baffled.....

Don't worry. Happens to us all around the 40's mark.

Try:

On a side note. Why are you buying girl wheels? Probably best to get some made by a wheel company...

I just made a big order on crailtap for boards/shirts/DVDs, and thought what the hell, I'll get wheels as well (considering how much shipping costs to Europe, it's better to make it worthwhile).
But yeah, it's probably the last time I buy something other than Bones or spitfires.

I'm sure it's just the quality of Girl. Sounds like it's time for some new wheels.

guess you're right. Girl is so big though, I'm amazed they have such bad quality in their catalog. I only had like 6 or 7 sessions with those wheels!

That's why you ride wheels from WHEEL COMPANIES not DECK COMPANIES.
It's just an extra sale tactic for the kids to buy, believe me. Sell 'em to some kid at the park. Or trade him, idk up to you.

Believe it or not, a lot of WHEEL COMPANIES and DECK COMPANIES have their products made in the exact same factories using the exact same urethane when it comes to wheels. They are only so many specialized manufacturers when it comes to this stuff.

I always wondered...do deck companies make profit from wheels?  Is it even worth putting the effort?  Bones or spits, that's what I mostly see people riding.

Of course they do. If they weren't making profit off of it, they wouldn't be doing it.

that seems logical....but I still don't get what happened to those wheels. I don't see how their "grippyness" could suddenly change?
