Wheels for Parks
« on: March 07, 2013, 03:07:08 PM »
Riding some 60 mm Bones SPF's. Like em for the concrete parks I skate at. Heard they aren't to good for masonite or wood. What are some good wheels for wood ramps and masonite as well as concrete? Been looking at stuff from Pi, Type-S, Autobahn and Rain Skates.

I'm using 59mm 98a Rainskates Killer Bees (double conical) on a masonite mini ramp and they grip well. If you wanted more grip you could go down to 95a in the Rainskates...I think some guys that skate really dusty indoor parks prefer those. The white 100a Rainskates are great wheels too, but they don't have the grip I think you're looking for. I would use them for concrete only.

Autobahns are really slim wheels, at least the ones I have are (54mm GTR2s), I haven't tested them on masonite yet, but the slim profile is going to mean less grip because there is less "rubber on the road". Not sure I'd recommend them for what you want.

Pi wheels are ultra hard - really geared towards concrete only.

Thanks for the reply. Those Killer Bees sound like the ticket.

This conversation looks like it could descend into people talking about "quivers" and "riders" at any point.

You don't need different wheels to skate different shit.

Just looking for something that would be less slippery on masonite then SPF's.

Spitfire parkburners are made for wood so you don't slip out but let's be honest it really doesn't matter.

I get it, you like Spitfire wheels. They are hit or miss for me. Had some Bigheads that sucked. Have some Soft D's that are O.K.
If it didn't matter there wouldn't be the huge variety of wheels in various sizes and durometers. Everybody would ride clay or steel wheels. I think wheel choice does matter.

You're all delusional, and it DOES matter, or rather, only two things matter;
1. You get a set of Bones STF's in your preferred size and style.
2. You buy another pair once those are done (18-24 months)
I'm going to argue that Placebo owes their entire career to a Canadian dude's skate video part. Appleyard should be getting royalties for this shit.

I'd go with spitfire wides or OG bones for skating a slicker ramp, STFs are like snowboarding at our park.

Dusty wooden bowls with STFs are hairy. Still worth it so you don't have to multitask boards like a barney.
