Are Guru Highs any good?

Been thinking about getting a pair of Guru Highs for my brithday, but I've heard mixed reviews, so I got a few questions
-How long do they last?
-Where do they rip?
-How well does shoe goo fix them?
-Is the padding good?

I would check them out in person if you can. The Habitat shoes that my local shop carries (several types) seem pretty cheaply made and flimsy. Super thin suede, soles glued to cardboard to hold the shoe together, etc.
