You can also read up on Keynesian economics. I'm not too familiar with those guys but I read this and it's a good little book which shows how a society could work without abandoning capitalism...

I would consider myself a marxist however history has shown that Keynesian methods are perhaps the most effective management system for capitalist economies. This is basically what it entails:

Rather than seeing unbalanced government budgets as wrong, Keynes advocated what has been called countercyclical fiscal policies, that is, policies that acted against the tide of the business cycle: deficit spending when a nation's economy suffers from recession or when recovery is long-delayed and unemployment is persistently high?and the suppression of inflation in boom times by either increasing taxes or cutting back on government outlays. He argued that governments should solve problems in the short run rather than waiting for market forces to do it in the long run, because, "in the long run, we are all dead."[12]"


People like Thatcher and Reagan decided to say fuck the last 80 years of economic history and engaged in policies to help make their upperclass homies hella rich. Their legacy is one of inequality and a global economy in shambles. Fuck them.

As for Keynesian economics, wasn't that the idea that stressed heavy government intervention in private business and consumption post-WW2? ? I thought that shit ended up fucking up the economies in north and south America in the late 60s, 70s? ? I was under the assumption that it only worked because of the demographics in the post war period, the baby boom and shit? ?  I don't know shit about economics though, feel free to kook me.

I understand that deficit spending promotes growth and adds jobs.  That's obvious.  What isn't obvious is what the long term plan is.  "In the long run we are all dead"  That famous quote irks me.  Let's play with no rules because we're all going to be worm food one day, right?  In order for Keynesian economics to work, everyone has to be on board and the moment to start paying off the debt has to be clear and crises won't happen during this boom time.  It seems like quite the hail mary.  Or am I thinking of it wrong and debt just doesn't matter?  I'm not saying that Thatcherism and Reagan's economic policies will lead to less debt either as it didn't.  Bill Clinton did, what was his magic economic policy?

Obviously you don't sincerely pity the British people. True, there is a general malaise about the way things are at the moment and anger at the way the economy is being handled, but overall life is still pretty fair (relatively speaking) for the middle classes despite the current and unjust government. It's pretty pathetic to pitch the country you were born in against that of someone else, you have no control over that. Doing so just makes you come off as a bit simple. Being British or American isn't a strength or weakness, it's an accident. Suggesting Americans are illiterate is weak minded too.
