Gear Hoarders

I know I can't be the only one that saves all my old shit...

I saved almost all my old boards since day one

Some old Spitfires, a pair of Thunders, some shitty wheels and trucks from a complete cruiser I had for some reason, and some other random shit, just recently started this junk box

And last but not least, old shoes, this was before I put them under my bed, but they're all full of used shoes, and that's not even all of them.

I'm interested to see what you guys have laying around

No hoarding here. I give all my boards to a buddy of mine who sands them down, repaints, and sells them to benefit the local DIY park in Little Rock, AR.

I usually just leave old boards/trucks/shoes/wheels at a park or at a spot- if shoes are too worn out i leave em in those big metal containers to recycle clothes. i've seen some young kids skating some beat up set ups and my old shit usually helps em out. now that i work and make some decent money to be able to buy product more often i remember how it was having to skate a deck til the very end - so i just hook kids up with it.

the day i came home from college and discovered that my parents had thrown away my broken board collection was a very sad day.

if its still usable, i'll usually leave stuff at the park or kick it down to someone who needs it.  i left 3 completes and a savier duffel bag full of clothes/shoes at 3 up 3 down the day i moved from SF.  i'm sure some crackhead got it all, but i felt like i did a good deed

I've seen Karl Watson just drop a ton of extra new product ( shoes, shirts, bearings, grip and what not) at different skateparks and plazas. pretty cool he hooks people up like that. i don't really take from there cause i have the means to get product and i've got friends who hook me up so id rather let the kids who don't work and have no hook ups take the prize.

The same thing happened to me.  I started in the early 90s, so I'd some pretty cool stuff if I kept it all.  With stuff now, I just kick it down to kids at the park riding shitty old set ups.

I used to save on to my old broken boards, but after a while it got to be too much so I stopped. I still have a stack of old broken boards from when I first started chilling in my closet at my moms house though.

This.

The only thing I keep are trucks...something about the years and effort it takes to grind a truck down to the axle, or break it, deserves keeping. The rest get donated, or sometimes I make shit out of old decks. Old deck + jigsaw = fun.

I still have my first genuine complete from when I first really started skateboarding.  It's mostly just for sentimental reasons because my late older sister bought it for me when I was in grade seven.  It's a Think mini-logo.
I used to save all my decks after that, but ended up just giving them to some buddies for an art project.  I think they made benches.
Aside from that, all my other set-ups and decks since then have been passed along to skate park kids.
Sometimes I'll swoop in on a sale for shoes or some spare skate part that I'll eventually need and just keep them as a reserve.

Bit of both, if the boards or whatever product is special to me I keep it, if for example I get a board wet and it turns all soggy and shitty, or I do something that cracks the first ply of wood, I usually just give it to whoever wants it.

I still have about four old decks from when I first started skating at my parents' house. That's when boards would last me forever and I'd skate them until the nose and tail were three inches. After that, I just started giving them to kids if I didn't snap them. I used to keep all of my old shoes but they got thrown out. Sometimes I get bummed since a completely shredded pair of SLBs was in the bunch. I'd kill to slip my feet into those shoes one last time. Overall, though, I'm glad I stopped saving stuff. I do have a tendency to want to hoard shit so it's important that I keep that in check or all the stuff that piles up weighs on my mind.

i've been thinking about this lately because i have a bunch of old but usable stuff i'd like to give to kids in need.  Skateistan is fucking awesome, but shipping a bunch of boards out there would cost more than the boards

i found this site recently and it seems legit.  thinking i'm going to give them all my boards

http://skate4africa.org/donated-skateboards/

i would love to just give stuff to a kid at a park who has a shitty set up but usually i don't bring my old stuff with me.  i guess i could keep shit in my trunk.  it might feel weird though being the old guy giving stuff to kids.  i would feel more comfortable giving it directly to a parent

I like to make friends at the park and get to know the locals so I'm giving my worn boards out to a kid that actually needs it instead of some kid that is just a brat with rich parents that won't support his habit.  I accidentally flowed a board out to the wrong kid once and I felt burned.  Otherwise, I'm happy to kick down gear that I can readily replace if the kid's heart is in skateboarding.

And yes, I'm a hoarder.

standard practice round my way, leave my old board at the shop when i pick up a new one and if some kid comes in with a ghetto ass board he can have my old one.. saves me lugging the old thing home and soem kid gets stoked then its a win win.. plus if i ever break a board and am short of cash there more than likely gonna be a spare lying around for me and the circle of life goes on!

Skate your boards untill they break If you can no longer use it get rid of it. You don't need shit cluttering up you life. Are all those boards cracked? If not leave them at the park. You know there are kids there's skating square tailed beaters

Few years ago a few homies and I built a big ass bonfire and burnt loads of old boards. As Dirtyweemidden said, pay it forward. I remember being super skint and getting a hand me down board from the local shop so thats where most my boards head now, skint groms. Trucks and wheels are usual to fucked to pass on they tend to get kept or binned. Shoes fucking stink, bin.
