« on: May 27, 2013, 09:40:37 PM »
Soon hopefully ill be working and first thing that i wanna do is get a camera. Ive been wanting a VX now for like 3 years but i was thinking to myself since ive only filmed with potato cams and dslr's none wich have been mine, should i go for something cheaper before stepping up? something like a TRV900 setup?

If you want a vx you might aswell get one, the money you waste on a trv setup could just be put towards a vx, I got a vx1000 not to long ago, still looking around for a fisheye but switching from hd to sd was the right choice in my opinion, vx is so simple and a lot more fun!

TRV 900/Century 37mm fisheye looks very similar to a vx100/mark1. It is much cheaper too. main difference is no custom presets, no handle, worse mic. If you buy a vx1000 check the serial no. on the base (the higher the number the newer the cam and vice versa) Dont rush to buy the first one you see either because often times you can find them cheap. lots of times they are listed for like $800 but you can find them for 400-600 easy. Also a Jap Vx1000 is NTSC. only the VX1000e films in PAL. Hope this helps

So i can't White balance on a Trv900 ? I guess it all comes down to my budget at the moment but glad to hear a century on a Trv will do the job. Ill probably get the TRV first then the VX.

you can white balance on trv, you can set shutters and f-stops. custom presets (which trv900 doesnt have) lets you change color levels, sharpness, wb shift and more.
I've had trv900 with opteka 37mm fisheye for a year now. only thing I really would like it to have is the handle. I dont really like those handles you screw on under the camera to the tripod mount, cant use viewfinder either when you have one.
my youtube channel has videos filmed only with trv, there you see how it looks with the 37mm lens...

Looks really good! i think im gonna go with that setup considering i got to buy tapes and a firewire pci card alongside the camera and lense. Thanks.

Btw what are your exporting settings?
