i go to a school thats 81% black kids, and I'm white.  I don't really use the N word, even in the shelter of white suburban neighborhoods among youth rocking DGK and jordans.  Everyone at school thinks its funny and I'm too uptight about it and it's almost more disrespectful that I wont say it.  When it comes up and songs I'll use it but I honestly hate going to the park and a group of kids saying nigga this, nigga that.

I feel you my man. I used to say it in my early years growing up in the "hood". But once we moved away I noticed how stupid it was for me to say that, so I just started saying Ninja instead of the real N word. And to my surprise it has actually caught on.

So just say Ninja and you'll be all good

went to a similar type school as OP, 80 percent black.  never was an issue because i wasnt taught racism, so i didnt even know what it was until junior high.  kid in junior high wore a "soith will rise again shirt", and someone asked him to turn it inside out.  used n word.  i watched the entire school almost give this kid a beatdown, and his eye popped out of his head.  so, whens the appropriate time to use the n word?

Once in fifth grade I called a black kid a nigger cause for weeks he kept picking on me for being Pakistani and Muslim, saying my dad works at 7-11 etc. Racist jokes/insuls .. I really didn't mean it as a racist term but I felt I was retaliating.. Shit I probably would never use that word again even though he was being really racist to me for NO reason. But the word "nigga" i avoided til i heard some one say "oh that Korean nigga who was here" - then I realized that its more of a replacement foe dude/bro in some cases. Now I've asked some close black friend of mine in the US as to how he felt..and he told me that my skin is dark enough to where he doesn't care. I have another buddy I skate with whose black and he doesn't care who uses it..then i've met another black dude who says ONLY black people can use it among each other... Shit its such a confusing topic.

It's an ignorant word no matter how you spell it. I hate hearing people say it. I grew up with a black step father, my sister is bi-racial and I grew up in the "hood" and currently live in the "hood" and wouldn't for one second think it was okay to say!
