Got sent a clip from Mark Nickels from one of the big Osiris tours back in the day, that I never seen. 19 years ago.. Went to my local ramp and gave it a try, haven't done this in 10+ years but worked it out  ;D

What the fuck man?! That was incredible

45 today.

Had a little pre-celebrate myself session yesterday. Nice to finally get out into a skatepark again. Kept it cool with the distancing...  no worries...

Happy birthday, sir!

Does anyone put a lot of effort into relearning tricks? I've been relearning a few tricks that I haven't done in like fifteen years. Today I spent almost two hours trying to relearn nollie inward heelflips and I got my feet on a few. Didn't roll away clean, though. The vast majority of the time they only flip halfway, but I'm getting my feet on the board all the time.

Just mentioning it because it feels great to relearn them, but since I'm so inconsistent it's also frustrating. Still, at this point in my life it's refreshing to reignite my old muscle memory. And since I've been sober for years, I'm hoping my consistency will improve.

Not sure if I qualify as old or a dude but relearning 360 flips on an 8.25 took me about 100 tries over 3 days. This was after not doing much skating for 10 years. backside 180s and pivot/slide tricks in general also took a few hours of dedicated practice to relearn my body just did not want to go backside for whatever reason.

Some tricks like kickflip and FS 360 came back really easy and were instantly better than when I quit. Not sure how that works exactly but I'll take it.

I could only do fakie 360 flips, and not very well. You must be stoked.

I've heard about certain tricks becoming easier after quitting skating for awhile. Jason Lee said that he could land occasional heelflips and switch flips when he returned to skating, but couldn't do those when he was pro.

I'm not even slightly stoked off relearning 360 flips I was furious after about the 10th try and ready to start chuckin my new complete around like I was 14. Missing any flip trick pisses me off so bad. Also tricks are judged way more harshly these days. I needed my 360 flip to be nicer than they were when I was young because other people do them so much better these days.

I think as a teen I overthought a lot of basic tricks so having a fresh perspective made tricks like frontside flips and impossibles which were way out of my reach before fairly learnable.

Ok

All I try and do is flip tricks from 20 plus years ago.

Early 40s, also no longer imbibe.

There is something to the quitting and coming back and learning stuff. I don’t get it.

I'm gonna be 35 in a few weeks. Haven't skated much in the past 5 years due to injuries and other stuff, but i've owned a board since I was 11. I started grad school in the fall and hearing wheels over bricks outside the building all my classes were in, at least once a day, got me really wanting to skate again. I've never been too good, but i'm stoked to set up a big old 8.something and start pop shuving my way around town.

I'll be 45 in less than three weeks. On Saturday I cut my grind box down 4 inches from 13" to 9" because I am not 18 anymore. It's way more fun now.

I think skateboarding hates me. after 2 months of taking my kids skating so they get some exercice during the lockdown, of course I get comfortable again on the board and start to really get into it....and it's just so awesome to see my eldest son learning ollies....
then sunday I hang up on a downhill manual pad....and fracture my elbow. in a cast again. only 2 weeks and no surgery so it's not too bad but goddamn....I just can't skate regularly whithout hurting myself at some point. every fuckin time.

I feel ya Frenchie! I've been doing low impact stuff very intermittently for a few weeks - but today hit up the park on my lunch hour. Was crazy hot and humid so just did some ollies up the small ledge in between some carves. Felt great so decided to grind the ledge - slipped out and somehow twisted my back and now am in a lot of pain. Getting old, for me at least, is not conducive to good skating done regularly it seems.

Hope you heal quick!

Nice!
A friend cut his mini ramp from 5' to 4' recently for the same reasons.

I'm 38 and don't jump down shit anymore but still learn new tricks on knee high obstacles and flatground regularly.
Thought I'd post another clip as some of you seemed to enjoy the other one I posted a while ago. Got this personal NBD today, was stoked, wanted to do it since seeing Penny do it at Chicken's pool in 411 30!

btw....thanks man! I can now use my left arm again and it feels good   8)
No skating for me until september at least though. and I think I'll stick to flatground/mellow banks now....and cruising. HOPEFULLY I won't get injured doing G-turns on flat..... but I just can't imagine not skating at all.

I think it's the first time I post in here, though I figure I belong, got 3+ decades skating. anyway respect to everybody with kids and competing interests but I just got added to the younger dudes group chat and it feels pretty good. If that sounds like a sad substitute for other types of adult experience, it probably won't be long before I get fucked up and have to sit it all out again so I'm just going to enjoy it for what it's worth.

^this....

I've probably mentiond this before but there are tons of times where I could be hanging out with real life adults and it's like...fuck that....so I can bitch about work?  Traffic?  Gentrification?  I'd way rather lose my mind trying 3 flips with a 15 year old....

You're on point with this and one thing I've learned is skating helps me connect with the present, and be present....not the past....the way skating is now...it's actually a super good way to be around a ton of different types of people which is way better than what most people are doing.

Lol the irony. You're still trying to relive your PAST by riding a piece of wood meant for teenagers. Maybe it's time to grow up. ALL OF YOU on this thread. You guys are old as hell hanging out with 15 year olds. Imagine if one of your kids was hanging out with someone 30 years older than him hahahhahaha
