I'm 35 now and have a list of tricks/lines to film in different cities over the next three years. I still don't have kids but probably will in the next two years or so, and I'm in the final stages of solidifying my career.

I hope I can do the tricks I want to do, at the spots I want to visit, from 35-38. It's not easy this winter because my muscle memory will have been degrading for almost five months, then I need to build it back up again. Plus since I'm getting older, I've noticed slams hurt more and my muscles get sore more easily. There's this whole doubting game I'm already playing which probably won't help.

Not only do I want to film tricks I can do, but I also want to learn new tricks and film those. And I want to relearn tricks. And it may be a dream at this point but I want to learn how to ollie higher. I'm just wondering if my "window" has really passed. I'm not looking to ollie over anything huge, but just improve my technique (which I should've done a long time ago).

So I'm doing what I can now to prepare for spring by stretching, yoga, jumping rope, watching skate vids, anything to preserve the muscle memory I have and maintain my body. Trying to eat healthier. I'm hoping I can still move the way I want to, basically. If not I'll regret it, I know it's not the end of the world, but I'd like to reach these personal goals.

I'm also 35 and appreciate what you're saying. The preparation is crucial to staying healthy and strong. I don't have a fat bag of tricks or anything, but just getting back into skating after a solid 5 year departure from any skating whatsoever, my muscle memory is actually on point with, if not stronger, than what it was when I had stopped. I don't think winter necessarily kills it and your preparation will do you well, for sure.

About them ollies... I've alway believed that you can ollie at least as high as you can jump. Suck those knees up, my man! You'll get higher!

The other day I tried some stuff they sell for bodybuilders to sip while they are working out. It has carbs and other shit in it, and instead of skating 45 minutes my session was over two hrs. I didn’t have the shakes, loss of what little pop I have left, and fatigue in my legs I normal get after the usual 45 mins. Pretty stoked to try it again. And yeah, it’s legal.

In-kaged. There are other brands too. Shits like $27 so not bad. There are 20 servings so for a little over a buck a serving you may have a much better session...worth a shot.

In a similar vein, I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder for which I was prescribed steroids, and lemme tell you old guys - that shit works. I skated better and longer this past summer than I had in a long time. My course ran out and I didn’t seek any more, but hoooo boy was I feeling it during my treatment
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021

@Sleazy - That was steazy!! Looks like a fun spot!!

and Fubar, I also use a Gatorade type of electrolyte juice that I get at one of those Body Builder stores. Has a bit of caffeine in it as well (the orange one does - not all flavors do)
The caffeine nice for the extra push, but I find overall the stuff hydrates you well, and you dont as cramped up after a skate (still gotta stretch tho…).

Actually used it for the first time snowboarding - Went on a 3 day trip and drank a bunch and didnt cramp up as much either. Tell ya, a little snowboarding is good for the mind and soul.

Stuffs called Cytomax (google it)

35 and a week back into it - loving it so far. I was a regular on this board from like 00'-03', made some friends for life, and got into a lot of great music (both from the board and videos) which led me to being a touring musician for the better part of my 20's and some of my 30's.

I'm married, first kid on the way, and live in Brooklyn (though we're thinking about moving to Chicago to be closer to her family). But I feel like I'm back on the board for real and for good.

45 and 3/4. Not sure I can do 46 tricks at 46 but might make little edit... Silly as it is to film oneself it does provide some motivation.

Can any of you fellow old dudes recommend some good shoes for skating with these old tired feet? My Vans are killing the balls of my feet after a good session. I feel like I need something with more padding but without losing board feel.

I skate vulcs but with Gamechangers insoles in place of the stock ones. Might be worth a try.

Nike Vulcs? I also saw adidas makes Vulcs  too. I’ll check out the gamechanger insoles. Man they are pricey. Thanks for the suggestion. I don’t mind the price if it will help the foot pain.

Are you in pro shoes or classics?

I have subbed out the existing insoles or pulled out the classic footbed and replaced them with my own special insoles for a long time now, but a lot of people swear by some of the aftermarket insoles, eg Footprint, Remind, Etcetra and others.

I have a few different pairs of Vans. Most of them are the old skool style that come with the newer removable insoles. I can’t stand the classics they aren’t much better than old school Chuck Taylor’s.

I've been skating mostly States for the last few years but I've used Gamechangers in Vans and Emericas too. They are pricey but I think they're worth it. For me they last multiple pairs of shoes but YMMV. They come in different thicknesses so make sure to get the right ones for the insoles you'll be replacing. I also recommend rolling the soles of your feet on a massage ball of some sort. I use an old baseball but people also use lacrosse, tennis, or special massage balls.

nice edit Frank and Fred!! Love your f/s rocks!

Kimura - NB 288 -cup sole mind you, but great pading and I felt my board fine. Quite a change from a Vans to the 288 tho, but your feet will love you for it!

Hi. I'm almost 38. I tried all kinds of shoes.
I can't skate vulcs anymore. No matter what insoles.
I had the best experience with the Etnies Marana and Joslins 1 + Footprint Orthotics insoles.
Also the Etnies Marana Mid was a very nice shoe but hard to find these days.
At the moment i skate Maranas exclusively and it love them.
You can't buy happiness but you can buy a Skateboard.

Board feel is over rated. Get yourself a cupsole. I'm in Joslins. I know they are too thick for some people. But I'm not in pain after a full day of skating.

The Etnies Joslin aren't cupsole are they? I was just checking the Joslins out. I like those. Which model are you rockin? There are a few different types.
