Fuckin bonkers. Trick wise he's kind of become next generation Rowley. Back lip down the rail Rowley tried to front lip. One upping some of Rowley's tech rail tricks on that 8-stair rail he skated.

Back lip kick flip was real cool, as was long nose grind pop out, a bunch of cool shit.

Looking at the last backlip though, you could really tell that he doesn't truly love skating.

But the whole, "Skating to metallica, homage tricks, bunch of thrasher shirt wearing"-stuff left a very weird feeling on me which I can't rinse off.
It's either him trying to be accepted by the majority of skaters, or thrasher trying to hype him so much and trying to convince people that he's not a kook...

I would be extremely surprised if he doesn't get SOTY, since he's been down with the Phelper, and got soooooooooooooooo much coverage from them over the last year.

But (yeah I know) Its been a few hours since I've watched it and I can't remember a damn thing, I don't feel like watching it again and it certainly didn't get me hyped. Amazing that. This is as much a statement about my general dislike for Nyjah and the never ending content released every day by many talented skaters. Tomorrow or the next day someone will a release a new crazy vid and Nyjahs part will barely be a thought.

But again, those five minutes were pretty fucking crazy while they lasted.

I can't be bothered to type the whole thing up again, but I have a conspiracy theory:

Upon second viewing I did note more Thrasher t-shirts than anything else (the rest being DC, Diamond, blank or indecipherable) and on several of these said occasions there were photographers present. Which leads me to conclude that Nyjah will in fact be SOTY because he has fully endorsed the magazine (something Jake Phelps criticized Busenitz over which is bullshit in my opinion) and along with his sponsors has invested in the magazine too (eg Monster logos, DC banner ads...).

I think Nyjah has been planning this "win" for over a year almost. A quick search on his name on the site reveals 10-11 articles (mostly photos or footage) featuring the guy which averages at approximately one a month and that's not talking about covers, photos and articles in the actual magazine.

From a business point of view, I think Thrasher are walking a thin line if they suddenly decide to give their coveted trophy to somebody else.

Deserves that soty award more than anybody tbh. Everybody has their own motivation to film a gnarly part. Some do it because they wanna impress people, some do it for the money, some do it for winning some award and for the feeling of being the best. None of those are really better or worse.

All he needs is a little more of that flowy natural pop for his flip tricks, and he'll be as enjoyable to watch as he is gnarly. But he's only 18 and his style will smoothen out in some time.

The fish eye filming sucked in a lot of the clips.

He literally bounced off the ground when he slammed on that crooks. Body completely in the air. I couldn't believe that shit.

Watch that kickflip over the rail, backside flip over the rail line. That looked damn good and his style keeps improving so I have no reason to believe it won't keep getting better.
 
This part is so insane it took me like 5 viewings to really notice that he did a switch noseblunt perfectly on a decent sized handrail in the middle of the part like it was nothing. I'm completely blown away, where do you go from here?

I love how so many people HAVE to include a "but".  "Amazing skateboarding, but he's still a chode."  It's ok to like the video guys!  Your opinion on him as a complete fucking douchebag doesn't have to weigh in on how you feel about his abilities which are, in fact, fucking amazing.  TONS of skaters that we like are complete fucking douchebags in other ways, they just don't happen to get interviewed every day and wear disgusting gear to add to how much they suck as people.  That part was fucking super impressive.  Will I watch it before I skate?  Of course not!  That type of shit isn't even on the same planet as how I skate.  I need to watch something I have a chance in doing, or at least wrap my head around, to get hyped, but that doesn't take away from how fucking gifted this kid is on a skateboard.  

You know what we should be more critical of?  SOTY itself.  If you claim to hate contest skating then why would you even give a fuck about SOTY.  It's obvious that it has very little to do with actual skating and more to do with who helps Thrasher sell magazines.  Awww, is our precious Busenitz and Puig ever going to get it?  Nope.  They're never even in the running.  SOTY, like everything else, is only as powerful as you make it.  Stop giving a fuck, if you hate it so much.
