To whoever said it was cliche- Pulp Fiction blew my mind when I first saw it when I was like 12.

Every time I watch trainspotting I notice a new subtle little thing the director did, and it just keeps getting better. Little things like the foreshadowing graffiti, the scene with the soccer match playing while Mark is getting laid, with the soccer match essentially matching the progression of their sex, to all the little things in the withdrawal scene. What is awesome is that the movie is enjoyable without really even paying attention to any of that, but just keeps getting better with every viewing.

Annie Hall- it turns out I can love a romantic comedy. I was hesitant about Woody Allen before seeing this movie, now I see why everybody overlooks him fucking his stepdaughter. "I'm into leather"
the fucking of the stepdaughter is mild compared to the fingerbanging a 7 yr old. woody allen is mainstream chase gabor.

Scum. Saw it when I was about 12, fucking hell. Prior to this, every film I had seen had a happy ending.

Never gave a shit about movies until I saw Lost Highway in 2005 even though it released in 1997. I became quite involved with David Lynch movies after that.

Lots of good examples here.

For me, it's definitely Akira. I've spent thousands on original artwork from the film over the years. I would have spent much more, but my wife issues temporary bans when shit gets out of hand.

Watching this after a handful of mushrooms is somewhat of a right of passage...

This made me realize that older movies are worth checking out...

This made me realize that reading subtitles is worth it sometimes...

Mind blowing cinematography...

Just want to throw this out there: FUCK David Lynch. His movies are just complicated for the sake of complicated. There are no deeper meanings and people just sit their staring at these intentionally cluttered and jumbled messes trying to figure out what the plot is. not trying to figure out the deeper meanings of things, not trying to figure out how they feel about the characters or events, but simply trying to figure out what is going on. People mistake that cluttered bullshit for being creative and brilliant, when really he's just a fucking terrible story teller who has no idea how to build a cohesive film. People are morons and will sit there watching Mullholland drive 150 times just to try to build some sort of sensible narrative, when they could have actually watched a film with a sensible narrative structure and have learned more about deeper meanings and how the film reflects life and society, but no, you sit their wasting your time saying "Which part is the dream and what is reality? This shit is so deep maaaaan." But its not deep, its poorly directed to the point where the figuring out the basic story makes useless people feel like they are being smart or something.

Oh, and after Watching the Godfather with director narration, I realized Francis Ford Coppola was a genius amongst men, for the opposite reason. The Godfather is a pretty straight forward movie plotwise, but the details- from the lighting to the hundreds of intentionally placed vignettes that go on throughout the wedding scene are insane. This movie is the anti-Lynch- there are no gimmicks to the movie, no real mindblowing plot twists (ok, Michael becomes a gangster, but everybody knew that was going to happen coming in, its not like the "Edward Norton IS Tyler Durden!" reveal in Fight Club ) its just the result of what happens when a brilliant and detail-oriented director works with an amazing cast. It isn't fulled with bullshit gimmicks designed to take confuse the viewer from realizing that the story being told isn't that great.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

I like Lynch when his work is more straight forward. I love Twin Peaks, it has a bit of weirdness but nowhere near its reputation would have you believe.  The Elephant Man is freaking brilliant and against my better judgement I like Dune. Eraserhead literally put me to sleep.
