Do unused decks "go bad"?
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:34:30 PM »
In all my years skateboarding I'd usually wait til my current board broke before getting a new one.  However, these days I'm more into buying a few and storing them so that when I do break my current board, I can set up a new one quickly without heading to the skateshop.

This has made me wonder, how long can you actually store a deck?  I've had 2 sitting under my bed for close to year...I've heard about how decks eventually dry out and become brittle, breaking easily, but I'm not sure.

nope. i took a 5 or so year break and when i got back to it my set up was fine. i guess it could depend on your climate if there's a lot of humidity and i know frozen boards break easier so don't stash em in the wood shed if you live in the north.

They warp if you leave them on a hard uneven surface too long. Also the cold/heat doesn't help much neither.

Keep them in a dry/dark place with little temperature variation and they should be fine. Under your bed should be perfect.
