Mike V got me into the Smiths.....

Funny how everyone is shocked Ed never had another cover.....shit changed in the 90's real fast....

He could easily have had a cover during the Heavy Metal/WTH era, imo. There were what, 4 major mags, and during that period none of them gave him a cover, even though he did have loads of coverage. That is weird.

and thats from This Is Skateboarding, when he was definitely more of a "veteran pro".

I was surprised he only had two covers, and so early.
example. i cant cast a spelll or love potion on a girl and she falls total in love for me
but i can show a girl my tv youtube clip on my or her phone. but there's a difference ok

damn mike had so much style and power in those clips

I was thinking the same thing. Mike was one of the few guys skating fast and displaying pop during that period.

No, but that was a tight ass track. Maybe I'll go with that from now on....
I don't even know where it came from. It was the name I used in the Tumyeto forums a million years ago. I think I was 13/14.

So, I was looking through the 15th anniversary issue of thrasher that I have, and I found pretty good sources on the who 5050'd the first handrail:
Gonz interview, page 88:
"Were you the first to 5050 a handrail?
Yeah, I did one at that Savannah contest. Oh yeah, and New York at that Eighth street handrail, it was such a good handrail.  It was a perfect height. It was perfect and it was square. That was a good one. I bet somebody could probably do like, a 180 kickflip to nosegrind down that handrail"

Natas interview, page 81:
"then from railslides [on handrails] you started trying to grind?
"Well, Mark was the first one that grinded- this one in New York. He called me up, "I did a 50/50." Then I ended up in New York, and we went to the same one. It was real low, and he was trying to go up it. And I'm like "What?" he didn't really even get on it"

For the record, these were interviews from '96 and they were talking about the mid '80's.
So, yeah, hopefully this confirms that:
-Gonz is pure beast, and a god amongst men (trying to go up handrails at a time when he was the only person who could grind down them)
-And first 5050 down a rail goes to Gonz.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

This is all true but I think the point they were making in the EL episode was about the first handrail 5050 PHOTO to appear in a mag

Yeah that's insane, do something so unthinkable and then be like "Well I guess maybe I could grind up."

Where did I see the footage of him grinding that rail??

Jason Lee sounds like he was a jerk. I use to have a room mate whose sister dated Jason, my room mate hated him said he was abusive to his sister and a real asshole to everyone. I always chalked it up to a younger brother being  made at his sister's boyfriend, but after hearing Ed talk about Jason, I think he was right!
