New 149 Thunders about to hit?
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:52:58 AM »

Saw a post on FB, something about new 149s, anyone have the inside scoop? Switching to the teardrop yoke that's on all the 147s and below from last spring?

i love thunder hi's.. rode the 147s for 3 years..my only thing was that they were slightly lower than most hi's causing the kingpin to grind.. i hope they make the 147 hi's the smae height as the 149's.

Damn I'd love to get my hands on them, when do they release? I've been riding a pair of 147's for some time now, best truck ever. Before that I had Thunder light's that lasted for a while. Never ridden any truck other than Thunder so these should be quality.

Looks cool, but I don't see how it's all that different.

So the only difference is that they're a few millimeters higher? I'm on Thunders right now after riding Indies for a long time and I don't understand how people discern between the minuscule height differences.

They're actually considerably different side by side.
Shape of the hanger has changed, less metal on the bottom.
Angle of the pivot, it looks straighter than the original 149, meaning a quicker turn.
The height is a huge thing for me. I'll give some feedback on the response after this weekend.

Fantastic! I rode exclusively Thunders for so many years, 147's and 149's, but i recently switched to Indy 149's and like the increased height from the Thunders. I might have to get a set of these since they're a little bit higher now.

That pic is showing the recent mainliner truck; I wonder if that wave (and the Titanium Lights 2) are considered the new 149 'II'. Maybe the slipped them out early in those models?

That's what I was wondering, The pic in the ad shows the mainliners that have been out. so are they them? and if not how are you supposed to tell the difference?

The old 149 hangers are much bulkier looking than the new ones.

The new version is not out in stores yet. I know the colorway looks the same but it's not them.

Stoked that they are redesigned the trucks. Ive had problems with wheelbite and the kingping grinding down. Hopefully they will still have the white bushings. Anyone know how much they will be?

i skate my shit pretty loose so wheel bite is bound to happen- i just dont like how the hangers on the 147 hi's are farily low to where the king pin gets grinded down

We've all been testing them for about a month now, I ride very loose trucks on an 8.38 and sometimes would get wheel bite riding old 149's.
The new ones are considerably higher than the older ones, Indys are 55mm high at the axle, the new 149's are 52.3mm at the axle. So that makes a big difference. Also, as a big fan of smith grinds, the lower set kingpin makes quite a difference as well. We also just wanted to clean up the look of the truck in general, the older 149 hangers were pretty meaty, almost as thick as a venture hanger. The new ones better match the lines of the 147, and the 151.
Everyone should feel free to ask me specific questions about them if you have any.

So it was just a clean up of the standard 149? Or all 149's (hollows, hollow lights, titanium's)?
Also if the new height is 52.3, what was the old height?

They will eventually replace all 149's that we make.
The height of the old 149's is between 50-51mm depending on bushing size/tightness.
More than just a clean up, pretty much a total overhaul.
