tyler surrey is CRIMINALLY underrated, and wes kremer's clipper trick is the most enjoyable thing to watch that I've seen lately. looks/sounds perfect in video compared to the sequence too

Jesus, i forgot he even put out a real street part. Wes has put out like 10 to 12 minutes of high quality footage this year, covering everything from style, line, switch, tranny, kinked rails and hell throw in a darslide on a concrete rail for good measure. I don't think Wes specifically gunned for SOTY, but DC and other companies definitely encourage their guys to go for it. Phelps thought process prolly has little to do with Street League and more creating hits for his website through a constant supply of footage of guys going for it. I think he's also aware that giving it to someone who appears to be making it a sporting contest like nyjah does through Street league and late november online parts(videos are different because they are legit released then to tie in with christmas sales) could cheapen the Thrasher/SOTY brand.

While they have actually maximized their brand compared to other mags over the recent years, it was only a few years ago Transworld killed them in the video market. They have now been able to become the biggest mag in skateboarding again due to how much content they post on their site in the way of online parts. Thrasher giving SOTY to Nyjah would basically be viewed by some people as if they gave it to Andy Mac in the 90's. Thrasher tends to avoid covering street league/x-games contests (the only one they seem to care about is Tampa) so giving it to a guy based on how he does in those would hurt how they have branded them self as a magazine in recent years. There's a reason a decent amount of former SOTY's seem to be against Nyjah winning it, while indifferent to almost anyone else.

The skating was of course phenomenal, but I also love the way this video looked - filming was on point, everything was easy to see, had a great flow. That's how you make a fucking skateboard video. gnarly part but Surrey is WAY better then this part showed. Pretty sure that was mostly throw away. switch flip 50-50 was amazing though!!!
