Glad to help! Yeah I don't hate the 93a's but my problem with those is I had multiple sets where the bearings kept slipping out of the seats within the wheels, even warranty ones they sent me. It wasn't as bad as the 88a's, but I definitely had to be careful on metal coping cause those tossed me if I leaned too hard a certain way.

I had this happen to me on F4 99’s, SPF 84b’s, STF 99’s, X97’s, x99’s… and the only thing the same between all of them was Bones Swiss.

It’s entirely possible it’s the bearings not being all the same?

(I know that sounds crazy and not within the realm of possibility but I don’t know what else it could be. I’ve tried with and without bearing spacers and it doesn’t help. Both a fraction of a mm wiggle room, and up to a mm of wiggle room. No difference, they all slide and pinch the wheel)

Also different trucks too: Thunder and Indy.

This always used to happen to me, to the point where I was having to press them back in after every run. Removing the spacers made a huge difference. I also use a q-tip to apply a very small amount of speed cream to the bearing seat so that the bearings go in easy and straight. My bearings never back out anymore.

I went through the same thing where I replaced every single part and they were still backing out. I think not getting the bearings in straight is what causes this to happen

I think the setup nerd era is in full swing. You can go on other forums (not slap necessarily) where people will debate the subtleties of the x95 and dragon 93.

This premium tier seems to be doing well skate one. At least on the internet.

My immediate thought was... I would love to try an X101
I can use the X99s anywhere I skate and really like them, curious if that would hold true with an X101 but a little more slide and speed.

I’ve always been just a person who buys what’s on sale from trusted brands, but after I had no choice but to finally change my 99du spitfire radials, I decided to go with something different. I ended up with some Nick Boserio OJs, and I’m specifically talking about his older “chaser” model with his dog and some beer bottles as the graphic. The specs are 101A and 56mm with an asymmetrical shape, which probably has a specific name that can be found online somewhere. Since I have literally always ridden 99du, I was sweating for no apparent reason about this change. It was genuinely a big deal for me. Anyway, since I’m mostly a ledge kinda guy, these wheels actually turned out to be life savers. Before this, I wouldn’t have really thought anything of OJ wheels aside from that I like Nick Boserio’s style and recent short video that he did, but dude, these really work for me. The change in hardness really suits my preference for skating, and makes all this ledge bullshit that I’m always trying to do feel great. I’m sticking way less, even with less wax, and I really like all the random powerslides/pivots that come easier now. I haven’t really looked into what people see as like the penultimate slappy wheel. This obviously isn’t, but yeah I think slappys are coming easier as well. So yeah, recommend. Ended up being cheap (on sale since they’re an older model) and worth the change. Might even try a different hardness next time

I would take an older OJ formula over any of their newer ones, but I really do feel like their formulas are not quite even 99 in most of those ones, of which I have many, before things changed and their wheels got harder with the move in production.

Any which way, some say it is the old Elite formula, others say different, but they did tend to skate well on everything, as an in between type wheel, more so than some of the other variations or options.

As much as I prefer Spitfire Formula Four 99 duro wheels as my usual go to, I have a good number of other wheels too, mostly on the "loan boards" at the indoor park / shop I am at, so I get to try a lot of different options and enjoy feeling out the different wheels on skatelite ramps, slippery concrete inside, rough concrete outside, bitumen carpark, etc.

Sure people say Spitfire or Bones and then everything else under that, but there are wheels out there that do serve their purpose for a lot of people who might want something a little different, so good luck with them and hopefully they last well for you.

As I think more deeply about this, yeah it’s probably this mini combo shape that draws me to the wheels the most. I like how the asymmetrical shape is a little easier to lock into grinds, but this obviously means that I should probably also try the Spitfires lock ins, which are literally called that for that purpose, or the asymmetrical Bones. Yeah, now that you mention it my local indoor park does offer some boards for people to test, so next time it’s heavy rains and typhoons here I’ll pay the entry fee and test some random boards with different wheels

Also, just checked and the wheels I bought were from 2018, so no wonder they were 70% discounted lol.

Will probably make some update about how well they lasted a few months down the line.

I decided to give my 88a dragons another shot, since before I only tried them outdoors. two sessions now at my local indoor and they are the greatest indoor wheel ever made. I can finally carve with full weight and aggression and even slalom with my loose trucks on the cement floor and there is zero slip whatsoever. slappies on the cement curb and metal coping grinds weren't an issue at all. for the indoor season folks out there, these things are such a game changer. just note that for outdoor skating they are only enjoyable as a concrete-only type wheel cause with metal coping they stuck really bad.

Aren't they slow and quiet like the 93a Dragons, maybe even more so? I mean whatever they were ok but the "greatest indoor wheel ever made"... hell no.

Pretty far from greatest indoor wheel ever made, I'd say. The 93s get stuck, can't imagine what it's like with the 88s.

I hate indoor season because of how no matter what it's a constant state of avoiding slipping out from the slightest wrong move. even the 93a dragons still had that issue for me. the 88's alleviated that. I've tried all the softer durometer wheels out there, shit even key frames. I held plenty long stand up grinds on the 88a dragons without sticking as long as my weight was centered properly. they're the greatest indoor wheel ever made, for how I skate. I added the last part since it got taken so strongly

Greatest indoor (plywood) wheel ever is the 85A Star Trac but not available anymore so... Much faster than 93A Dragons despite the lower duro (on concrete it is the opposite way around, though). This is why I'm a little bit interested in the 88A Dragons but not quite convinced yet.

Speaking of Keyframes, the other day some girl was on them at the park and doing fine with the "weight centered properly" technique. Any wheel is fine then. Actually maybe I'll test out the 86A Ricta Clouds today, see how they do.

Always been sort of OJ curious so I took a chance on the NHS Black Friday sale and grabbed some OJ 56mm Mini Combo 99a wheels. First session this morning and I have to say they feel pretty terrible. Really poor slides, they feel plasticky and hard. Also, obviously a silly complaint, but they just look cheap. Sort of fluorescent white with a goofy OJ logo, looks like a department store wheel

I was skating an asphalt parking lot so I’m not writing them off yet, but initial impressions aren’t super inspiring

Yeah, the OJ Elite 99 formula feels rock hard to me as well. They have a good grip, though, and are fast, so in e.g. concrete pools they perform pretty well. But as for an all-around wheel, not for me.
