If you weren't sold on the need for X97's over Dragons I'd advise you to try the X99 formula. They are like the wheel you never knew you needed! They skate as well as 99a F4's in the park but have the vibration absorption of the Dragon formula over crust. They are a near perfect wheel IMO. I'm guessing the new 97a F4 will feel similarly.
I just like the "feel" of the 93 better, it's what I want of a softer duro... straight line speeds yeah close enough, but me personally, lot more confident to push way harder in wood/masonite parks where the x97's are barely any grippier than a 99 or 101
the old 97 F4 def lacks a bit for speed indoors, but all the reviews sound like the 93 IS the spit I'm looking for
(unless concrete park, then 101's all the way... I guess I don't like "middle ground" compromises.
I can see how some options of wheels, mainly Dragons and Soft Sliders more so than the mid 90s / slightly harder duro wheels, can be good / better on some terrain over others.
Maybe the experiences are different, but for NOT slipping out Dragons were better on the wood surface of one mini ramp, but then things like smith grinds didn't really work as the wheels had too much drag, compared to the Soft Sliders which were a bit more likely to slip out but could hold smith grinds on the same ramp.
Maybe it is different on crust, as the Soft Sliders definitely held speed in a rough carpark I usually skate and worked well on almost every other surface I tried them on, but the wood surface mini ramp was a little slick for my liking in that one instance.
Overall Soft Sliders came up way better, but I still haven't put any real time on them, besides two sessions at different places, compared to only trying Dragons on other peoples boards when they brought them in.
Maybe it is because I know what the current Spitfire 97 duro wheels are like now, but I have them on a few boards and they work well for me, just to take the edge off and not slip out, especially the Radial Full wheels, on that same mini ramp.
I have Formula Four 99s as my usual go to for anything else, as well as some 101s on for my own wood ramp at home, but it is not at all slippery, so they work great on the ply painted surface.
