thinking of buying some && Nano rats 93a.............what are the alternatives before I pull the trigger?
[close]

IMO

The Dragon formula 93s feel great on rough surfaces but slow and sluggish on smoother terrain like skateparks. The 97s feel a lot better. Spitfire 93s or 97s are good too and seem to hold speed better in parks and feel more like a regular skate wheel.

If you are eyeying the nanorats for the shape, get the 97s as it's enough of a 'rough spot' improvement but with more speed.

If you can handle the 99a spit get the lock in classics. Bigger and chunkier (heavier) than the nanos but essentially the same shit as the nano V4s; the nano V5 lip is  more than enough to roll onto/scoop into shit...the need for the big round edge (more than regs classic) is just gaslighting/to go toe to tow with the nanocubics. 97a Lock-in classics would have been the bees knees as you can't find the 97spits anywhere it seems.

its for skating our plaza spot.....tiled ground, banks, slappy kerb etc power slides rather than blunt slides.....I'm old I want softer wheels. and I've just ordered a heroin egg....new set up for the new season so I was thinking dragon wheels.  If I go to the indoor place I don't mind switching out my wheels

ps where are we with bearings? I looked at someplace online and there were so many different kinds of Reds it was confusing

For plaza I'd say 97a or 95a if you can find the latter, both feel like a hard wheel that can handle the crust without feeling slippery. 93a are great for very rough spots but pop like a softer wheel, far from a Ricta cloud, but you'll feel it when popping. And stickier on slides especially pinched grinds like crooks.

Bearings - can't go wrong with Bones Reds (regular black and red packaging), Swiss if you're feeling spendy. Quantum is a good alternative brand if you want to try a smaller brand that is wallet friendly. I'm a year on SKF and they've not disappointed me. If you're on a budget Mini Logo or Spitfire Cheapshots.

I fall into the "bearings are bearings" camp, won't splurge on the premium Swiss but lots of riders will swear by them.

Regular Bones Reds are great. No need for any of the other Reds. Bones Swiss or Swiss 6 are an upgrade and will last longer but double the price.

i'd just go with some 97 nano cubics they're pretty much the greatest wheel ever created and it's going to be a long time before anything else comes close to revolutionizing skate wheels like they did

97 nano cubic is like the perfect wheel that can do everything and it can do everything just as well or usually better than anything else out there

Any use is right, like you can use them for pretty much any kind of skating.

Has anyone tried the new Bones V7 double lock shape? I’m mainly curious if they significantly drag on grinds in the x99 formula.

I have the V6 x99 on my winter/rain/crust setup and they have the slightest bit of drag. I wonder how much the squared off edges increase that drag.

When skating Spitfires, I notice a bit more drag on OG classics vs conical fulls. Going V6 to V7 seems like the Bones equivalent of going from radials to OG classics, so I’d assume there’s a significant increase in drag when grinding.

Anyone who has tried them, let me know how you like them. Are they worth getting or should I stick with the V6 shape?

Side note, I’ve had a lot of injuries lately and my back pain has been really bad. I wasn’t stoked on the soft feeling of the x99s when I got them last year, but I’m really enjoying it now. I’m getting old, time for an Andy Anderson board

Fellas I picked up some Dragons........I got a bit confused at the skate shop as he had a packet of nano rats, and although they were 97a, they were the narrow version and only 52mm.  So I went with a set of Dragons - 97a, 54mm, nice and wide - fit my board set up perfectly.  And with a fresh set of Reds I went for a skate and was extremely happy.....are they nano rats?  Not sure........too much choice confuses me.  ( here in the UK I paid £64.99 for the wheels and £20 for the Reds - at todays change rate thats $112 for wheels & bearings! )

If the graphic is a winged rat they're the Nano Rats and if it's a winged lizard they're the Dragons.

Glad you like them. I mostly ride the Dragons in 93 but really want to try the 97s. I tried the spits 93s but not for me. Something about the X/Dragon formula I really like.

What didn't you like about the spits 93? I liked the radial 54 but the 52 classic 93s are horrible. They slipped when trying to turn but when i tried to slide they'd stick and were slower than my dragons 52.

One burrito: 15 minutes of delight.
One set of solid wheels: prolly a couple/few months at least.

i have a set of spitfire f4 97s and some slime balls 97s, slime balls are nhs like ricta. so these slime balls feel harder than spits while rolling around, but they slide like shit and stick on ledges/rails, like a crooked grind is almost impossible without a ton of wax. the spitfires feel softer yet slide like hard(er) wheels.

from my experience nhs wheels are not that good in general, like i’ve never skated an oj or ricta that felt on par with sf/bones. if you want to save money get some mini-logo 101s

If saving money is the topic here the answer is F4. In the long run they're cheaper. If you want a cheap wheel the best option are Bones 100s

Nah no Ricta and definitely no Sparx or OJ From Concentrate, the last set of Rictas (Naturals or 1 of the pro models) I skated were painfully hard. If budget is a concern go for Mini Logos, Bones 100s or SML (or Dialtone which used to use Creative), they seem to be on sale everywhere for $25.

I think Rictas are interesting only if you've got the spots for them. Those 101s are so hard and chirpy. Feels very cool on nose/tailslides. Seriously they're hard. Not the sparx line though, those are stinky.

Right now Skateone is blowing out Minilogo 101's for $7 a set. Flat $6.50 shipping on all orders.  Limited size options but when I just looked they still had some 52's in white and some ugly ass 54's in green. I've skated them and they aren't the best but are in no way the worst and you can get five sets shipped for the price of a set of F4's.

I love burritos. I just spent a month in the Wales and the lack of burrito was incredibly problematic. However, I did have two sets of F4s with me. Skating other wheels really isn't saving money, as they will inevitably disappoint, flatspot, wear down at quicker rates...

I've been back one week and I've had about five burritos already. I left one set of F4s in Wales for my nephew and a shoe box full of freshies here. It is a beautiful life at times.
