Looking for feedback about these Powell wheels, for a cruiser board.

Snakes 66mm 75a

Snakes 66mm 82a

Dragons 64mm 88a

Dragons 64mm 93a

If your cruising will have more asphalt than concrete and/or more hill bombs I would do snakes. A little smoother on the asphalt and seem to have smidge more grip carving, compared to old school super soft wheels snakes slide waaaaaaay easier though.

I have acquired the 58mm x95 v5 shape wheel to go with / compare to 56mm soft sliders and 54mm 93 nano cubics. They’re definitely harder wheels so they slide easier but the nano cubics and soft sliders have their pleasantries..
I have 53mm x99 that are great at the park but I don’t have many parks or any smooth concrete near me.. plus I am not very good (quit 20 years ago, just turned 35). Enjoying all these options. I slightly remember the 52mm 97a wheels I bought when I was a kid and they sucked lol.

Can really you tell the difference between the x95 the 2 durometer softer 93s nano cubics?

Just got my first ever F4's and jeez, these are so much louder than my dragons. I do like how they feel, can really feel the difference from the cheap blank, hard wheels that Im used to.

Prob wont see much use given that I skate mostly on the rough streets and asphalts near where I live so the sound is a disadvantage.

What’s the grippiest soft slider wheel? X, dragon, and spitfire

I have some 93 classics and they ice out of control when I least expect it even when I’m being careful about that specifically

On both asphalt and smooth park

I heard some people feedback that spitfire 93s arent really 93s, its closer to bones x97 if we were to scale it relative to powell/bones offerings.

Dragons for sure, but they will still slide out if the asphalt is super rough. The rougher the ground, the more they slide. They’re very grippy on smooth ground

i'm getting a little tired of spitfire 97s wearing away so fast, i went from 56 to 50mm in 2 and a half months. what's up with the x97s, do they last longer? i remember the spf/stfs being super fucking durable, is that still the case with the x formulas? i kinda want to give them a try, i've been on spitfires for like 10 years straight pretty much but they've gotten so expensive recently, the x formulas i can find for cheaper.

X97 has the best all around speed/grip combo.

Agreed, loved my set of X97, 2nd only to the F4 93a. If Spitfire did the 93a in Conical that'd be my #1 wheel (sorry Radial Slim you're impossible to find anymore).

Dragons and X formula definitely wear down faster than SPF/STF, but not at an unreasonable rate. I wore my first set of x99s down about 1mm over a month or so.

I skated the X97s when they first came out in late '22, early '23 or so, and then a set of the old F4 97s directly after. Both were wide conical shapes (Bones V6, Spitfire conical fulls). I didn't notice any difference in terms of durability. I'd say give them a shot, the X97s are definitely good wheels for our euro crust.

My local found a pair of the most illegal wheels of all time while they were renovating, so of course I had to buy the set. Looked the SKU up online and they are from the Bones Spring 2014 catalog.

Such a 2014 wheelset, I love it. Definitely had some colorful STFs on the board throughout college.

Snakes 66mm 75a

Snakes 66mm 82a

Dragons 64mm 88a

Dragons 64mm 93a

82a Snakes are amazing wheels. They will slide at speed. Smash through anything. Fast as fuck. I have both the 75a and 82a and the 82a feel the best.

Working Class wheels: anybody skated these or know what their deal is?

Looks like they're (maybe) not from the skateshop of the same name.

Kind of a cool aesthetic. I'm surprised they did a mad men thing and not a tool time thing.

Ah should have guessed it was tarriff pricing, such a big wheel I almost thought that price was commensurate for the size.

I think Skate One is milking their premium products... which I guess is fair, because it's "premium" and not a necessity, but damn how long can this last. I feel like all these dudes with $300 setups aren't doing a re-up every 3 months

Powell Snakes are big longboard wheels which explains the price a bit. There are cheaper but also more expensive options in the category. Seismic Alpha wheels are $100 for example.

Tariffs shouldn't impact Snakes in theory, as they are made in house in Ventura CA but Skate one probably boosted prices across their catalog recently.

I would have to go looking, but I believe a few people posted pics of nice big flat spots on their wheels, or were done with them pretty quickly.

@yourbreakfsat might have had the best pic of it.

It's been a minute but anyone commit to riding the OJ double duros? They seem to be out of the 'protoype' faze and on the market as pro and team wheels.

@yourbreakfsat is the man for that.  Posted a good review and had said he would have preferred getting his money back or something similar, which was all I needed to know about those wheels.

They are the most expensive wheels on the market here in AU, not sure about elsewhere, but even more expensive than / beating out the fast rise in Spitfire Formula Four wheel prices, only without the good things that Formula Four wheels bring to session.

The OJ Elite 95a feels like a normal hard wheel, like a 99a. It's fine but not as good as Spitfire F4. I'm sure the 101a Elite is similar, as a dual duro wheel of the two would be. Seems like a pointless addition to the lineup in a way but maybe there is some kind of manufacturing benefit.

This continues to be crazy to me. When companies put new stuff out, doesn't anybody skate it first? Isn't there a whole damn R&D department whose job it is to make sure that the wheels don't flatspot, or the truck pivot cup works, or the bearing cage doesn't break the first time you go over a gap?

Apparently not. I guess we're supposed to pay (at $50 bucks a set!!!) for the privilege of being the beta testers.

Just had a whole "I'm fascinated by weird wheels" thread, but it feels super different to say "has anyone tried cherries?" or "hey dialtone has a fun aesthetic," than it does to say "industry giant nhs just dropped highly touted new shit and it's...bad?"

(Linda Richmond voice)
"Is OJ double duro the Carter VI of wheels? Discuss"

(Edit: yeah I know these came out in 2023 but my point stands...)
