Is Riley Hawk better than his dad
« on: October 26, 2014, 06:44:53 PM »
Saw outliers, Riley is on another level of street skating. Tony was the best 20 years ago but got surpassed but the younger crowd. I think Riley deserves a pro shoe, maybe not a video game though because skating has changed alot.

Can't really compare them because they're two completely different skaters. Tony might be better now than ever. He's done some fucking wild shit in his recent parts. He's also old as fuck so that has to be taken into account too. Riley isn't even in his prime yet though, and yeah, he is fucking immensely talented but I can't find a way to draw a comparison between the two.

Technically speaking Riley has the edge, Tony cant and never skated street. The street footage Ive seen was pretty embarassing.

Riley is damn good and will continue to get better for a long while. Tony Hawk if anything will slow down. The new generation surpass the old, as it has happened in skating since it began, no big thing. You still can't compare them, one is a modern street skater the other a classic vert guy. They are night and day. One thing though, I seriously doubt that Riley no matter how good he gets will ever have the massive impact on skating that Tony had. Few if any will ever be that big again.

Oh and Tony's early 90's street stuff ruled.

both of em are like pretty important really. Tony is like so influential for his video game and getting Baker to be the top of the skate industry like it is so lots of props but fuck like Riley is riding for Baker and totally killing it and your right he should have a pro board and shoe.

Dumbest fuckin thread, but it reminded me that Riley's only 21 yrs old, which seems crazy since he has had so many great parts already. Dude's gonna grow into a legend for sure I think. Nobody's every gonna be bigger than Tony Hawk

Tony skated a lot a street in the early days of Birdhouse and late days of Powell, i would say he was just as progressive as any other street pro at the time. his style on street actually left a lot to be desired, but that can be said of a lot of early 90s pros, also he almost ollies the gonz gap in one of the 80s Powell videos, might be Animal Chin, its one of the ones from that time frame, so that woulda probably woulda been within a year of Gonz doing it.

True. Plus it's hard to compare progression with just being a really talented skateboarder, Tony is the godfather of modern vert/transition skating.
