Who invented old school flips?
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:26:15 PM »
It's pretty much common knowledge that Rodney Mullen invented pretty much all of the ollie oriented flat ground tricks other than maybe a few newer tricks (Dan Gallagher invented the hard flip for instance), it's also commonly accepted that Ty Page invented the shuvit sometime back in the late 70's, but does anyone know the stories behind some of the other older tricks? Who invented the old school kick flip? I don't believe it was the dude that invented caspers (Bobby Casper Boyden). Was it also Ty Page?

You mean the flip where you ride your feet side by side to flip the board?

Yeah where your feet are parallel to each other and the board is going the same direction as your feet and one foot slightly hooks under the board and you jump causing the board to flip. I can't do them rolling but they're a staple of freestyle skateboarding and I believe they're the first rolling flip trick.

Everything I see says Rodney Mullen, but I swear it was someone else. Now I am curious.

Nah, Rodney said in his book that when he got his first board he took it home and learned old school kick flips. Not the inventor.

Ok according to Bob Loftin of the old Bob's Trick Tips site it was invented by Kurt Lindgren, I don't know if he's going to give me a year or not.

Rad thank you, so many skaters from the past paved the way for us and we don't even know their name.
