Simple small skateboarding obstacles/ramps

I've been having an extra curricular skateboard club with some students.

They are quite into skating but can't really ollie/ do any tricks.

We have a playground and that's it, so we have been building jumps/banks/ bank to banks with bricks and scrap wood. It is pretty good fun but probably pretty dangerous because nothing is very stable.

Does anyone have any plans/advice for really basic stuff we could build / get built?

Any help/ridiculous answers are appreciated.

We aren't D Way though here, has to be cheap!

A french fry curb is simple, safe and can be skated a lot of different ways without ollie-ing. Not to mention cheap.
It'll only cost you a sore back, scuffed grip and maybe a smashed finger or two.

I still enjoy a simple wedge made from scrapped ply wood and 2x4s up against a step.

What is a french fry curb? Is it a curb that slopes down at the end? I can't really steal anything, as the club is at a school.

maybe ask for some donations so you could get some stuff from the hardware store? and how old are the kids? teaching them how to build things would probably be pretty cool too, but i understand that theres a liaibility involved when you hand a kid a hammer or a drill. its really rewarding to build something and then skate it though, no matter how old you are.

if you cant get much money, id go around some industrial areas and look for pallets and scrap wood. i know a place near me that manufactures trusses for roofs and they leave a huge scrap big of good wood for anyone who wants to take it. also, if you find a place that does something like that, maybe try to talk to someone in charge and tell them what youre doing and see if they could set some stuff aside for you. ive had a few projects in college where i needed quite a bit of cardboard and someone from our class talked to this company that made boxes and they donated a shit ton of cardboard sheets to us as long as we came to their shop and picked it up. it never hurts to ask.

You can take pallets to make frames for a lot of ramps then just buy ply wood to put on top, most stores have tons of pallets out back just sitting next to their dumpster.

careful with this site tho. read the whole set of instructions before buying materials and don't rely on the material list on the side.  my friend and i ran into some trouble making the 1/4/jersey barrier because the material list was off.

I'd suggest a bank to wall. The beginners can learn how to kickturn and for your advanced classes you can teach em how to wallride.

You could also build two kickers with the same height as the manny pad. So they can roll over the pad but you can also use them as stand alone kickers or create a hip with the manny pad.

Manual pad, ledge, parking block (if acquireable), small (under 2') mellow QP.

Aside from the parking block, none of these are hard to make or pricey. If you can get found wood or donations it's even cheaper.

You could simply make a 3x8' platform that does double duty as manny pad and ledge. Either use angle iron on the edges or build the whole top surface with synthetic outdoor deck boards.

If the kids can't Ollie a mellow kicker so they can just ride off.....mellow mannie with angle iron so they can learn 50's on later...even have it so kids can ride up the mannie pad and ride off at first...or ride onto a grind.....they get stoked on that....

The wedge/bank idea is good too....Even if you could make it mellow to start then steeper and steeper....

Then just real small stuff to Ollie over when they get there....

that's what grimcity calls tiny yellow parking blocks. resemble a mcdonald's fry. if ya can't boost one, apparently parking blocks are wicked cheap according to some video of DIY guys filling a pickup truck w/ them.  it was the least cost effective vs sweat equity crime the news jamoke had ever seen but little did he know...........
not for sure if where to buy the french fry curbs cause sometimes they're lightweight and not cement. some kinda plastic and maybe held stationary by 2 rebar posts dug into the ground and protruding into [but not through] the curb.

Yes, diyskate has great ideas for ramps, but you need to be a sleuth and use the plans as an outline and freestyle it yourself. The east coast weather and snow has me lazy, but ramp pics to come sooooooooon.

Thanks for the ideas. I was told yesterday we have some budget which is  great. Hopefully get something built this week. I'll post up if we get it going.

I quite enjoy building shit with the crap we have but I figure it is a bit sketchy if the whole thing collapses...
