Can we talk about Soul music?
« on: March 02, 2015, 11:03:30 AM »
I like the old shit from the 60s and we can definitely talk about that but what I'm looking for right now is the stuff like Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Curtis Mayfield's shit. The kind of soul music that was starting to get big during the 70s

Basically, I want lush string arrangements and excellent production, smooth vocal stylings by virile looking black men with beards, etc. I'm looking for music that makes me think of wood panelling and shag carpets.

You guys got any recommendations? That newer stuff is too "polished" -  I'm going to use Gaye's What's Going On as the guide for what I'm looking for.
