I like this kid on alien. His skating is more like the alien I grew up on than the lame later "downriver" crew

skating was good. effects look cool sometimes, but when it makes me pay more attention to the effects than the actual skating, then whoever edited it really fucked up. that flickering video effect they used will ruin whatever clip you put it over in my opinion.

ah word, that is rad that you were friends with mike mcdermott. that dude had the best parts. i bought his habitat board when it came out. im a big fan. nollie cab nosemanny from the inhabitants extras is one of my favorite manual clips of all time.

Mike is a class act. Great skater too. He just likes to rep his city which is rad.

that was pretty awesome stuff. it's does seem like a step back because this is what alien kinda looked like before it had half a team full of dudes that started to think they are fashion models. this is what pre-wack alien kinda looked like.

alien doing the stupid fake filters over digital footage really bugs me for some reason. they always used film for those 'artsy' shots in their videos. it seems minimal overall but i take it as a bad omen.

does it make less sense than using a twenty year old camera to film with? putting filters on digitally seems the same to me as people wearing different styles of clothing. none of it is necessary. It's done to give a look to something. why not wear the same thing every day? this may not make sense to you..it does to me.

hmm...not once in that last statement did I say digital filters look good. in fact, i said it was unnecessary. I don't really care either way. i compared it to the stupid shit people wear. It's done to have a fake look. both are a weird thing to let bother you, yet people do. I guess that is my point directed at your original statement.

i think the sharpness of the HD makes it easier to pick up on the pattern of the effect. there is more contrast between HD and the fake grain because of the higher quality, so you can easily tell where the effect has been used. lower quality footage doesnt have as much contrast, so the start and end of the effect look smoother.

that wasn't even my point. just saying that they used to be a genuine company, using film costs tons of money but looks great. the fact that they are cutting corners on one of their trademark aesthetics just makes me worried about what else they will be half assing going forward.
