I remember reading a Stefan interview where he said he started late and took a long time to learn how to kickflip

I read somewhere that Kareem Campbell didn't start til he was like 17 or something. Not sure how true that is though.

Came in here to say Kareem also. Remember reading it a long time ago, but thought it was 16.

He said in an interview that he started at 16, but I remember him placing well in CASL (old am circuit) contests when he was 16.

Doug Brown didn't discover skateboarding until his 40th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese.  The story goes that after spending most of the morning sniffing children's shoes by the ball pit, he scored a Tech Deck on one of those prize grabbing claw arcade games. It was all "Gee wilickers!" from that point forward and the rest is history.

I think he was also playing a game with the kids. It's called, "Do you want to see what a big boy's penis looks like?"

I think 14 years old is the cut off age if you want to go pro and you really need to put in the hours to even have a shot. I know some pro skaters that started at that age. Daewon Song, Chris Haslam. Ryan Decenzo, Neen Williams, Josh Hawkins, Terry Kennedy, Justin Eldridge and a lot of european pros.

Intersting enough, pros that started at 13 is a longer list, Jeremy Rogers, Kevin Romar and Marc Johnson just to name a few.

PRod started at 12, but thats not late I think.

He did started at 12, it says so on his official website http://prod84.com/about-me/ Also he talked about it in several interviews that he started in Christmas 96, he was born in 84.
He got good really really fast, doing switch tres down stairs after 2 years of skating is mindblowing to me.

Bad ass! This video is very inspiring. I'm 29, just started skating again after a 7 year hiatus.
