the next Thrasher editor
« on: March 18, 2015, 05:47:15 PM »
I have been listenning to the Thrasher radio episodes and I was wondering, who is the next in line after Phelps can't pull it off? I'll go with Seiben.

Maybe he'll just ride it out for life (Hefner was at playboy forever). I wonder what his life will look like without it (probably hangin' with skaters still, enjoying things)?

I always wondered a part about that great Whiteley article reminiscing on Phil Shao: I think he mentioned Shao was getting ready to takeover as editor sometime before he passed. Because Jake (who was getting tired of it or something?) saw him fit to do so and he was a hard worker there.

I think Burnett does a considerable bit of the heavy lifting at this point anyway. You can usually spot his work from the tone and humor. Phelps' pretty much sticks to the Thrasher gnar/hesh/punk script close to the point of parody.

Not sure who it'll be, but here's my list of some that would be really funny to see, regardless of the fact that most of them would drive it into the ground in 3 months:

Scott Kane
Mike Vallely - would turn it into an even less readable version of what Scott Kane would try to do
Daniel Castillo
Clyde Singleton - unreadable yet still funny somehow
Rick Howard
Brian Wenning
Dylan Rieder
Tinker Hatfield
Elon Musk

Scott Bourne will  make each copy on a 1950s typewriter. The covers will be written in blood.

I assume that Burnett does a lot more of the editorial work now, and that Phelps now serves as more of a sort of figurehead for the mag.  I could be wrong, though, seeing as how that's based entirely on speculation.

You've got it right. Phelps is involved in all things head with the mag.

I've been thinking about this for a while as well. As many of you, my most logical guess would be Burnett as well, even though he might be one I would lesser se take the guard. I think he's beautiful where he's at. But who knows. Maybe he could pull it. Don't about Lance Mountain. Even though I don't know anything about he's writing or editing skills, he would have the right integrity..
