Was watching j.wray weekend buzz and some of the old epicly laterds seems like an interesting person who shot some of the coolest pictures in skating.

This is actually the best idea ever. DHS seems to shoot the most epic photos in the most epic ways. I remember a Rowley interview where he talks about them telling him they were going to session wilshire or some rail and Sturt didn't show up, so they start the session and Rowley's throwing down, Sturt rolls up dressed as a construction worker, shoots a few photos and fades out. Rowley said the pics looked amazing as usual when they got developed.

Seems like a bit of an enigma. I like these kind of pre-internet legends. They have that word of mouth uncertainty that make things really interesting.

It's not an interview, though, just him basically describing/explaining the circumstances around the photos he took for it (which were all amazing).

I first met Daniel when Plan B "arranged" for me to film with him about a decade ago. Stories abounded of this brash, wild-eyed brute and his antics: walking off in the middle of shoots, mind games, and sheer intimidation- all atop his reputation of being the best. I had an outright fear of him. My first day substantiated his "eccentricity" as he squared off with clenched fists, yelling, "I'm the nicest guy you'll ever meet!" Harry Sturt is a piece of work. Yet that year, a friendship was forged that will last my lifetime.

I remember him writing a note claiming to be the first skateboarder to ever officially quit skateboarding the note was accompanied by a photo of him fs 5-0ing the oververt pocket on bobs ramp . It was in a transworld i believe

i heard he committed a crime and keestered a camera in order to get shots of josh swindell skating the SLO prison. he had a dead man's fingerprints surgically attached to his fingers so has no record under his own name.
i heard he sent registered sex offenders to the 10 stair school in the Sunset and while the teachers were dealing w/ that he captured jim gagne lipsliding the rail and ollieing the fence. during school hours!
i heard he gave leonard kirk the shotgun and said 'tie up the police for a few hours, i need to get a shot at Union Square' and mr kirk took the gnar too far.
i heard DHS displayed such cape work he was hemingway's favorite matador.
i heard he has a life size gummi bear he nibbles on every day.

If you just google his name, there's such limited stuff on him too, which adds to the mystique of the stories. I wanted to see if I could buy a Sturt print and could find next to nothing on him.

Outside of possible ones on legends on Muska, Howard, and Stranger that I'd want, the one I pray he makes is on Danny Renaud seems like his story would be pretty crazy (growing up in the Fla skate scene, Mosiac, how crazy he acted to get the boot from habitat, stereo, Static 3, roof incident and recovering to be able to skate again.)

there's a bunch of good ones, there was a super faded out photo that transworld ran of one of the H Street guys and Grant didn't like the photo so he didn't want to run it, so DHS told him he wasn't gonna give them anymore photos until they ran that one, so it sat on DHS dashboard for 5 months until Grant finally ran it in Transworld, which i'm sure he hated it more now cuz it was superwashed out from the sun. Mark Appleyard had a few good ones, the one i remember was that they were skating a gap to mailbox thing and DHS shows up in his truck gets out with his camera stands in the bed and begins shooting pictures, Appleyard is afraid to stick the grind, Sturt yells at him something like, why don't you just fucking ollie and grind the fucking box, then Appleyard gets it, Sturt hops in the truck doesn't say anything then bounces. He was still shooting with the Nikon F2(not sure if thats the correct naming but the one everyone shot with in the 80s) well into the 2000's. He shot a photo of Charlie Thomas when he was on H Street boardsliding a rail at a church in downtown SD, it's pretty much a pic of the church you can barely see Charlie cuz of how wide it's shot, Charlie told me that he made him do that rail ton of times to get the shot right . He also filmed a bunch of the stuff in all the old H Street videos, just the fact that he could make dudes like Damain Carbajal and Jason Carney look really good on a board is a testament to his talent, you can see him in the end of the Life video filming Sheffey he's the one with the super short board shorts on. Oh yeah one more, i think it s an interview with Grant Brittian and he said that Sturt worked at G&S and he would get tons of misprinted shirts, and at some point Sturt quit buying toilet paper and just wiped his ass with the shirts and threw them on the roof of the apartment complex.
