So you're telling me Mt. Dew changed skateboarding? Is that what I'm hearing?

How come no one ever calls people out from this era for being jocky?

How come no one ever calls people out from this era for being jocky?

I just re watched the Bones Brigade documentary and was kinda taken aback by how "competition" seemed like the reason for everything. It's pretty alien to me and how I've always thought of skateboarding. It might just be the people who get interviewed? I never get the sense Blender or Gonz gave a shit.

Still, I do sometimes think that if I had grown up in CA I'd do something less cool, like football.

Best thing on the internet.  I wish they would release the whole season at once like they did last time, so I could binge all night.

Well the way I understand it, back then almost all of professional skateboarding was competition based.  If you didn't do well in contests, you didn't get coverage, which means no sponsors knocking on your door.  That didn't really change until street skating took off and companies like World started changing the format.

Oh they do trust me, I know plenty of people from that era who talk shit about some people being super jockey. Just seems that jock mentality was more common so it wasn't as big of a deal but there were definiently some who were way more of a jock then others (like salba)

He gave serious downhill longboarding a pass. Not flip-flops, board shorts, mongo-pushing, mall-grabbing, sidewalk riding, jump-off-the-board-to-stop longboarding, which is 98% of longboarders.

What?

I fucking laughed so hard at these three quotes. Leet, you never come off cunty (to me at least) ever. It was like someone going up to ghandi and calling him a fat fuck.

Grosso is a crotchety old bastard and that's why this show is so good.

Fuck yeah, The Letters is the truth.

I love how Grosso is so obsessive and knowledgable about skating and yet at the same time just never seems to be taking it really all that seriously at all.

Seems to encapsulate what skating is all about.
