Resurrecting this thread because the film is finally being shown in theaters and I'm just leaving the premiere in my city.
I highly recommend checking it out if you have the opportunity. Bona fide skate films don't make it onto the big screen often, so support it if you can. It's a very tough watch, but well made and features great archival footage as well as lots of pros from the era. Hell, even Spanly's in it.
Ali and Max, the director, were present for the premiere and addressed some of the questions and presumptions people seem to have about the film in general and the aftermath of the accident in particular, so I figured I'd share them here:
- Ali applied for a visa to Australia for the premiere tour and was rejected, so he's never been back and hasn't met Shane's family yet.
- Max reached out to Shane's parents to see if they were interested in a meeting, and apparently they are ambivalent about it to this day. Ali wants it to happen, but obviously won't ever force it because the wish for it must be mutual.
Now go see it. It's good.
