I damaged my ACL last year and 10 months later I thought it was good enough to skate flat and do a few kickflips but seems like I've reinjured it a bit. Huge bummer but I guess I'll just chill and play Elden Ring. Wear your braces and don't rush recovery my friends.

my meniscus has been torn in my right knee (i'm goofy foot) for the better part of 3 years now. I'll go through phases where I take some time off, it heals somewhat, I can skate lightly, then outta nowhere I'll be standing and I'll feel it tear again. It's the weirdest feeling. I'm so used to the pain that it's not even painful anymore. I just think to myself, "welp, my knee just tore again."

It's starting to get to the point though that my left knee is fucked from overcompensating. My left IT band is constantly tight because my weight and gait is distributed on that leg. It feels like rusty fire in my left knee, and loose morals and instability in my right.

Less than 2 weeks until my health insurance kicks in and I can't wait to get this shit fixed.

Freak accident last week, my shoe came off as I was falling off an overshot 50-50. Slammed my barefoot on the ground, probably bruising the bone on my big toe, also have a heel bruise. Been walking with a limp for a week already. Probably gonna be at least another couple weeks before I can skate.

Tie your shoes up tight kids. That fall wouldn't have been an issue at all if my shoe had stayed on.

my achilles have been getting super irritated any time I walk more than a mile or do any type of physical activity. it all started when I got this new job and hasnt gone away for almost a month. its getting better slowly but im starting to get kinda worried and dont really know what to do. anybody have any advice? I've tried gently stretching it and icing but that only seems to do so much.

Got this weird sensation in my knee on my push leg. Almost like something is loose but not painful when walking around. I’ve had this occasional sharp pain when standing up from a squat when knee is at full compression, but that’s a separate feeling from the weird sensation thing. Never had a knee injury or any issues before. Sound familiar at all? Had some friends catch some bad knee injuries from seemingly out of nowhere, like it was damaged but unnoticeable until one big impact finishes it off.

So, yesterday I had an indoor session and on the last try, fakie frontside big spin, my deck flipped and was hitting my big toe with full force. I took my socks off and realized my nail is blue. I touched it and since than it's bleeding.
I'm sure it's not broken. Seems like there was a blood blister under the nail.
Anyone had something similar. I read somewhere that I should drill a lill hole in the nail so the blood can come out..

Has anyone had a lump appear on the top/front of your ankle after a sprain? I sprained my ankle pretty badly a couple months ago and thought it just kept swelling when I’d exercise/stretch it, but it’s not really going away and I think it’s causing pain when I lean forward or try to do anything on my board, I still can’t skate other than roll around. My ankle feels fine except when I lean/bend it too far forward.

I don’t think it’s a hot pocket but really don’t know, what does that pain feel like and does it cause a lump or anything? Thanks for any help, I’m planning on going to a specialist when I can, X-rays when I initially got hurt didn’t show any breaks but they didn’t do an MRI.

i was thinking canada, in my experience if you are still able to walk you might literally NEVER get medical care in canada.  It took my friend 2 in a half years to even get an MRI for a torn patellar tendon he was able to self diagnose himself the first month of the injury and this guy was hounding doctors and trying to make appointments every single day for 2 in a half years, the average guy would never have gotten one.

I hurt my achilles a long time ago trying to take of a pair of Stevie Williams Supras without untying them.

It hurt rly bad for a while and I was supra worried about it. Eventually, I stopped skating and doing crazy shit for a while, just took it easy, probably just took my mind of of it and it just got better and now it's completely a thing of the past.

So, unless you had some crazy trauma happen to it and it's completely torn, which it doesn't sound like it is, you'll probably have the same experience if you just max out for a hot minute.  The human body is pretty amazing at healing itself, much more than we give it credit for.

I had a neighbor who looked like Christian Bale and completely tore his achilles riding a motorcycle. He lived with his girl and their kid there and, after he tore his shit and had it reconstructed, he set up a punching bag and was always hitting the fuck out of it. Him and his bm were always fighting so he probably took his agression out on the bag.

One day, he backed up into my landlord's big flower pot with his truck and smashed it all to hell and when she brought it up with him (she was like 90 years old and English was her second language and she was like my adoptive grandma), he basically told her to pound sand. This pissed me of to no end so I ended up buying her a new flower pot for like $30 at some wholesaler in Topanga Canyon, replacing it and then writing him a really passive aggressive letter that was all, "Hey, Dude in Apt #3, I heard you broke [Landlady's] flower pot with your huge truck. That sucks. But, alas, I bought her a new flower pot so you now owe me $29.63. Pay me asap. -Ed in #7"

He tried to write me a passive aggressive letter back but he sucked at it. He did give me $30 though.

Idk why I told you all that but the point is, your achilles is probably going to be okay so long as you don't injure it further while it is healing. Take care of yourself, bro.

^ Another point on the achilles. It could be something as simple as your shoes if it keeps getting aggravated while wearing the same pair. Had to retire a pair of slip ons for this reason.

Bumping this to share my experience/vent a bit. I’m sure lower back pain has been discussed to death here, but I’ll share anyway:

About a month ago I strained my back playing street hockey. It progressively got worst, and got to a point where I couldn’t even stand without intense pain, at which point I went to a chiropractor. That helped for a bit, but a week ago my progress plateaued so I went to a PT. She gave me some light stretches to do, and today I went to my general doctor.

Basically, the chiropractor was giving me wrong advice- core exercises and a lot of movement- so I was walking a lot- so good but not when your muscles are still inflamed. The general dr prescribed me some muscle relaxers and told me to just cool it for a couple weeks, after which walking and core exercises will help. Hopefully it works, I guess I’ll see.

Tl;dr: go see your general dr first and ask a lot of questions

This is what I’ve been going through the last few years. Coming up for my 3rd and hopefully final surgery next week. Because I was overcompensating my gait was messed up so badly the surgeon had to cut my tibia and re align my leg, plate and screws etc. This next surgery is getting all that hardware taken out. Fingers crossed this is it!

Chiropractors are notoriously... Maybe not quacks but quack adjacent. After working in actual medicine for a few years I'll never go back to one. If I'm actually hurt I see a physical therapist, if I want a massage Jane at the tug and rub down the block does just as good a job of "adjusting" me and its a lot cheaper.

Is it your lower back? I had really bad food poisoning over the winter and got so violently ill that I fucked mine up straining to  dry heave and shaking. At first I thought I'd just pulled a muscle or something but then it started burning and traveling up and down my left side and I realized that it was sciatica and more serious than I had realized.

My only advice is to rest. You do need to stretch it out and exercise a little but staying off your feet is the best thing for it. Ice for inflammation, heat for pain. If you smoke weed that definitely helps for like after work or when you start exercising or skating again but patience and listening to your body are really key. The first month or two were a constant cycle of me trying to skate too soon and setting myself back, it wasn't until we had like 3 weeks of shitty weather that I finally started to heal.

Swelling is the body healing itself and should be allowed to happen (ice is bad IMO).

Swelling can be caused by eating refined carbohydrates. Reducing carbs lessens swelling across the board.

Swollen ankles and many other ailments are potentially posture/gate related which is compounding in effects on the body and leads to muscle imbalance/joint breakdown.

When stretching it is very important to find a comfortable edge and relax into the stretch. Bouncing and overstretching triggers the muscle to tighten up to protect itself.

Yin style yoga was designed by a martial artist and benefits me greatly (long holds using the bodies weight for deep stretching).

Yoga is more about meditation than posture.

Meditating clears away all the noise in the mind and allows one to feel their body and its alignment/misalignment.

I am much healthier today at 41 then I was at 21 using the principles explained above. It is a life long journey that one must personalize to make it work for them. Results can come slowly so patience is required.

I hope what I'm passing on is helpful.

Yeah, it’s my lower back. It seems like you’re right, the doctor said just rest for a couple weeks, take muscle relaxers, ice, and stretch lightly every day. I just wish I had known that sooner. I think like most skaters I’m naturally active and it doesn’t feel right to keep still.

I have also been dealing with an Achilles/ankle pain, I do walk a ton 16-20k steps a day but I have a pretty rigid stretching/workout program and I skate 4-5 days a week. But I was wearing halfcabs and other mid top shoes that felt like it was being irritated by that, I tried rest and it did subside slightly but did t go away. My calves have also been tight so been doing the stretch with my foot on a curb and straightening my leg to stretch my calf out. Has been helping a bunch. I never did it before and now I do it throughout the day. Also switched back to low cut shoes. I’m assuming acute tendinitis and hope it goes away but at my age probably not.

Idk

Anyone got any strategies for getting rid of a hot pocket? Like when i stand and put all my weight on my back ankle and lean forward i get like an uncomfortable burning sensation. I feel like i need to resprain it to get the fattest joint pop and have the blood flowing again. Shit hurts but it relieves all the tension in that moment haha. just like snapping a pencil.

Edit: Did this with my foam roller and that shit felt nice. Now i just need that small physio ball.

Was having a lot of knee pain and haven't skated for two weeks while waiting to see a doc. Just a MPFL  sprain (not meniscus like I thought) so two more weeks off. Doc said he just did the same thing snowboarding so I will actually heed the warning for once. Forgot how much better the rest of my body feels day to day without skating. It’s like being in a car crash a few times a week for months/years on end. Biking every day is very chill. The soonest PT appointment is two months out so maybe I’ll have a new injury they can help with by then

I pretty much keep re-injuring my bad ankle and bad knee every time I skate.
Barely been able to skate, minus hills, for the last 2 years! Getting bummed on that

Had my knee MRI results back yesterday... good news is that I don't have a torn meniscus, and the ligaments are all in great shape, no degeneration anywhere. Was actually told my knees are in fantastic shape considering i've been playing skateboard and snowboard for 20 years.

Bad news is that I have grade I chondromalacia, otherwise known as runners/jumpers knee...exacerbated by flat feet causing misalignment and my kneecap to grind against the cartilage behind it and my thigh bone.

My osteopath suggests a patella strap/brace, so i'll grab one...and said I need to be better disciplined about icing it when it flares up. Been told I can also tape my kneecap over to the opposite side, but that's a bit of a faff.

It actually had settled quite well over the past 4 weeks, then the day before my MRI i pivoted and twisted my body around with my foot still planted on the carpet at home and that has set it off again.

Anyone else suffer from runner's knee and have any tips? exercise and strengthening won't do a great deal apparently, as its more to do with mechanical alignment.
