What do you do to pass the time when you can't skate? whether it's the weather or an injury or whatever.

I've been trying to get a zine finished and I find that that's pretty good for passing the time and also getting a sense of accomplishment.

I'm moving back to Portland in September to finish school. Not really looking forward to 9 months of rain. Last time I lived up there I passed the time by drinking and fighting with my ex. But I don't drink anymore so I'm hoping that the stress of school will keep me occupied enough that I won't get too melancholy from not skating.

that's rad about the zine! i'm into that stuff but rarely write anything. this garden has been my ma's project for like 20-25 yrs but in the last 2 my buddy and i have been growing food between and around her perennial flowers. read books, explore vacants, draw sharks on trains but mostly screw off on the internet if i ain't skating.

When I got surgery on my ankle a few years back all I did was play call of duty for like 6 hours straight and eat food. I would try to avoid skate videos and magazines as much as I could because it would just drive me nuts thinking about how I wish I could skate at the moment.

I play darts. a lot. It's my other addiction. I'm playing in a $20k+ tournament this weekend. It's weird. They have nothing in common other than there's a whole subculture for both. Dart players are in way worse shape though. Think bowlers with cooler shoes.

Develop hobbies and interests outside of skateboarding to make myself a more well-rounded person so that in the future, when I'm too old or beat up to skate, I'll have something to do, both for entertainment and so that I won't be a completely useless drain on society.

Suggestions include, but are not limited to:

1. Read a book.
2. Go to school.
3. Strengthen personal relationships.
4. Cardio.
5. Call your mom and tell her you love her (although, to be fair, this could fit into #3).
6. Home improvement.
7. Skate spot improvement.
8. Read another book.
9. Cut down on the weed.
10. Learn grammar and punctuation.

I dick around editing skate footage I've shot of me and my friends. I've made dozens of edits out of boredom that will never see the light of day haha. See if a song fits a certain part, see if a clip looks cool in slow-motion versus regular motion, etc.

I also make remixes of pros' footage occasionally when I have large blocks of time on my hands. https://vimeo.com/user12355909/videos if you're interested. Some of them have garnered a lot of attention, which is pretty cool.

Reading is amazing, and super cheap if you do it right. Get a library card ASAP! My local library has a searchable online database where you can place holds on books, CDs, movies, etc. You can place holds on whatever you want, then have it delivered for pickup from the library closest to you. It's awesome.

Whenever I'm bored I'll just hop on there and put holds on a couple books and within a few days I have them in my hands. If they don't have a specific book I want I can just file a request and they'll usually buy it.

Your library might not be quite on that level, but at least check it out.

Besides that, the usual hanging out with friends, messing around on the internet, listening to music and the like.
