I just got my first pair of 440s. I love how they fit and skate but for whatever reason they absolutely KILL my feet. I have plantar fasciitis and i thought the cupsole of the 440 would help but it almost seems to make it worse. Does anyone else have this problem? Im thinking about getting some custom insoles to see if it would help.

Its a huge bummer because i cant really afford to buy new skate shoes right now and my old ones (Lakai Protos) are completely blown out.

Welcome to Plantar Fasciitis Corner.

I have pretty bad plantar fasciitis, and have an absolute nightmare of a time finding comfortable skate shoes or even reducing the pain enough to skate or do much of anything. Cupsoles are good - you really need to support your feet. I had a pair of 440's, and they didn't work for me. If your Lakais worked, but the 440's don't, it could be from one or both of these issues:

1) the shoe and insole have basically no arch support
2) the midsole cushioning of that shoe seems to only be concentrated in the heel. This causes a lack of support under your forefoot, and a noticeable drop from heel to toe, which can flex your achilles tendon (which is connected to your plantar fascia) at a sub-optimal angle.

If you weren't having many issues with the Lakais, I imagine your PF isn't too bad, and you can probably manage to comfortably skate the 440's with a couple of adjustments. Custom orthotics would probably help a lot, but they aren't cheap. If you have medical insurance that will pay for them (I know that's tricky for Americans), I'd definitely go that route. If not, I would do the following:

1) Get an insole with rigid arch support (not floppy rubber or gel) and a cupped heel. Try to find thin ones, without too high of a heel if you can (so as not to worsen the achilles angle thing I mentioned above).
2) Stretch before and after skating, and any other exercise. There are some good suggestions here. The thing that helps me the most is keeping my calf muscles stretched out and loose. Once you try a few stretches and get into the habit of it, you'll start to figure out what helps you the most.

I just came off 440s and switched to JP Mids. My feet and legs have felt better with the cons. Was surprised how much the 440s hurt my arch and calf muscles. I did love the durability and how they skated. Maybe need to look into different insoles too.

Picked up the white 1010s from my local today with some old sb eBay money and they had the black/gum 420s on sale for 65$. 913s were the gateway drug, jah bless it. 🙏🏽

I just picked up my first pair of NB Numeric, the 913, after skating only Nike/Adidas for the past couple of years. I can't believe what a wonderful skate shoe it is, I feel stupid for not trying them sooner. Just a wonderful cupsole that you can walk around in and skate in. I can't say enough good things about 'em. I will definitely try the Tiagos at some point, I'm impressed.

Some great info thanks man. I’m actually seeing a foot specialist in two weeks to get custom insoles. Hoping my insurance covers all of it.

The lakais i had had were great and didn’t hurt my feet at all but I couldn’t find them in my size anywhere. Plus they blew out insanely fast which is surprising because i really only skate once or twice a week due to work.

Really hope the insoles work because the 440 is my type of shoe  :(

This quote cracked me up man.  Glad you're hyped on them and that Jack gave you a sneak preview of them in his post.  Those are Spring 2021 colors...but the first drop is just around the corner.

I don't have PF but I do have flintstone feet that make finding a shoe that both skates well and is comfortable enough for me to wear all day at work difficult. One of the first things I did with my 440s was swap the insole for something a little thicker, not for any impact protection but just to make them more comfortable to wear all day and it was a great move. I used Adidas cloudfoam ones because they're thin enough to keep me feeling connected to my board but soft and plush enough to make the 440s very comfortable to wear. I wouldn't go slapping an ultracush or something like that in there, but if you can find something thin that works for you I would definitely suggest doing so. For what it's worth, the 440s are the best skating cupsole I've tried in a very long time (maybe ever) so I hope you find a way to keep skating them.

Stoked we won't have to wait long, I'll probably get at least as many pairs as there are colorways I like at that point. 440s have turned out to be my favorite shoe recently and I'm about as tired of getting a board to the ankle as someone my age should be.

2nd for stretching properly. My Dr friend and Tiago fanboy showed me some eccentric stretches with raised toes which get both the Achilles and the Plantar.

I fought PF for a solid year.  It sucks.  I thought I needed more supportive shoes and orthotic arch support.  But in the end it was the opposite that worked.  Thinner shoes that aren't too small with no heel drop, thin insoles, wearing minimalist shoes when not skating and tons of arch/toe exercises.

I get cortisone injections for my PF. 1 a year. Usually early spring. Best 20 bucks I spend every year... with Covid I have not got one yet in 2020 and wowzers is it tender. I ordered the Tiago. Still waiting for them to show up. I hope they fit.

I went and got the black Tiagos today. I was tempted by some all black 440s as well since they seemed really nice as well and a lot cheaper but didn’t have my size.

I did notice the aforementioned rubbing issue on the knuckle of my big toe in the white pair but not on the softer black ones. It’s an interesting shoe, looking forward to skating them.

got my black tiagos today as well. they fit pretty good and are comfy as well for being so new. haven't really broken them in yet, guess that will take a few days as the sole seems pretty sturdy. i have worn them around and had no pinching or pains. heel lock feels super good, like i don't need to lace em tight at all. silouette looks slimmer in product than in pictures, which is not bad imo. well padded, but not excessively so.

i'd say they fit a bit like dunks but a little tighter around the forefoot maybe. not as pillowy right out of the gate as i thought, but they might soften up a bit like dunks do or i do as usual and swap a few insoles around and see if i like some other combo best.

overall this is one of the best made shoes i have bought in a while from the looks of it. my pair is virtually flawless and the materials seem like high quality. from the sideview i am still getting emerica templeton vibes, that's pretty sick. i will skate them once i have broken them in fully and maybe report back then.

So fast. They get soft within two sessions for me, but never lose their shape, it's sort of remarkable. Also one of the best cupsoles for boardfeel that I've tried by a longshot.

440s and FP Gamechangers Low Profile worked like a charm for me!

Insole fits perfecto.

Do the 440s break in relatively quickly? Always been a vulc fan which puts me off them, but reviews and recommends are solid.

So fast. They get soft within two sessions for me, but never lose their shape, it's sort of remarkable. Also one of the best cupsoles for boardfeel that I've tried by a longshot.
Sold, gonna pull the trigger on some tonight. I am UK size 10.5, and so I guess like Adidas a US 11.5 is UK 11.

Nike has been re-releasing those as the Sky Force 3/4 for some reason
