Been skating my 1st pair of 1010’s for about a month. Upper has plenty of life left but sole is starting to smooth out/lose grip. Anybody else experiencing the same?
[close]

Yep same deal for me. I wear through the sole before the upper by far.
Yeah and they really felt slippery to me after the sole was bald, even if there was still some rubber left.
take what small comfort there may be left
seize what you love and damn all the rest

Someone asked this earlier but how's the sizing on the 425s?

I wear an 11.5 in 212/213s and 420s (12 in most Vans)

One more NB question. I love the 212s and 213s but I am curious to try a slightly more tech/ supportive model for my old tired feet. Any recommendations? Not sure I can do Cupsoles unless there is one with pretty easy break-in and good board  feel.

(I have some 420s but I don't skate in those and don't think I could).

NB 440. It's a very low cut cupsole which doesn't take much getting used to if you're coming from vulc.

TTS

440 is a little more “narrow” compared to 212/213 which has one of the biggest floppiest toe boxes around

Yeah, that's why I like them. I have wide feet. Sounds like I should probably go up half a size to 12s on the 440s then....

The 440 high fits wider than the low, also.

I'd go 0.5 up on the 440s ^^ if you wanna try em and your feet aren't narrow or slim. Consensus is somewhere between TTS and 0.5 small on the 440s.

Speaking of 440, a couple of colors in a full size run for under $50. Lots of other cheap Numerics too. Just scooped some $60 Tiagos.

Actually here's some 440 Tom Knox lows for cheap too, just weren't listed under Numeric

I was never going to try a pair of NB because I can't shake the N logo association with those white dad shoes but couldn't pass up a $42 pair of 272. Runs a half size large, had to get a 10. Usually a 10.5 in Vans/Adidas

Man very good looking out. 440 lows always fit tight but the highs in the same size are perfect. Therefore I’m finally trying a half size up in the low, seems low risk at that price.

id go at the "n" delicately with an xacto knife
makes every numeric look 10x better imo
that logo is so poorly incorporated with the design
it has to go everytime
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Here to express my appreciation for the 212. It fits my foot so well and is priced right for what it is.

Agreed. I have skated through about six pairs and have two more on ice.

Maybe this is just me but those NM# 425 look like Walmart shoes to me. I think making the toe panel one piece was a bad move design-wise, but that's just me.

It exists, its called the 440 and comes in a low and a high at 15-20 bucks more. Only so much can be done to a shoe to catch a price point like that. People just discovering the brand are more likely to start off at a lower price point until trust is gained.

I should add, this wasn't about whether a shoe like it exists or not. I know what the 440 is and it's purpose. This a cousin to it on a non-numeric sole tooled for skating. The OG 425 has a stitched toe and the numeric version does not. I'm pointing out how the numeric's design choice made it look "cheaper" in my view. We all know the price point gimmicks to build trust.

Black/white 1010’s are on Paradeworld now. I’d imagine that they’ll be dropping in local shops pretty soon

Someone asked this earlier but how's the sizing on the 425s?

I wear an 11.5 in 212/213s and 420s (12 in most Vans)

I got some of the blue/orange 425s. I have very long toes on my relatively normal foot and due to years of marathon running, messed up toe nails, which means I like some space between my big toe and the end of the shoe. I am also in the UK, which throws things off with new balance as Vans US to UK is a whole size different, whereas NB (and Adidas) is 1/2 a size difference. I wear US 11.5 in both 440s and 425s and Vans slip-ons (can't skate in Vans anymore), BUT, i have ample toe room in all three, so if you like your shoes fitted, you may want to size down 1/2 a size.

For me, the 425s are going to be for chilling, the heel lock for me isn't the best, and I get some lift. I think its because the middle of the outsole is an extension of the white cupsole, and its very stiff, which means when i lift my heel/go on my toes, the shoe doesn't bend that much. Maybe if I had gone half a size down this wouldn't be an issue, but like i said, i like a bit of toe room.

Personally, I am sticking with the 440s. Hope that helps.

So half size down on Tiagos?

I had to go half size up in the white/navy/grey 1010

10.5 in 440
11 in 1010

So half size down on Tiagos?

I went TTS and they are a little big. To keep ‘em snug I gotta crank em down like a football. My foot is more narrow than wide, so probably depends on your foot shape. I will try half size down next time.

A 0.5 up in Tiago is a MUST for me.
Tiagos are largely TTS for most from what I've seen. A lot of NB shoes run small for some reason.

I reckon the size you skate in cupsoles (generally) guides you for what to get in the Tiago.
Slim foot = TTS or 0.5 down. Normal to wide foot = TTS or 0.5 up.

Does anybody happen to know if the 574 fits like the 440? They look sort of similar and a local shop has a pair on sale. I don’t drive, so I could skate there to try them on, but I don’t wanna get sweaty and stink up the place if they fit wildly differently.

Edit: Nvm, I found the answer about 100 pages back.
