Boys of Summer was one of my favorite videos of the past year, and it still is, but what a lame dude this Jeff is.

Dustin's quote isn't even bad.

"there's a lot of people putting a high price on sobriety right now..."

He's saying people over value sobriety in society, if you can't handle alcohol then for sure get sober. For those of us who can drink without being an absolute dickhead, and also not get caught up in a bad habit, alcohol does us no harm. I can drink and I can also choose not to drink, just because there's hopeless alcoholics, and others who can't handle liquor without turning negative around us, doesn't mean the rest should be put off on the fun. It's funny how people who had a problem with alcohol in the past and is now sober, tend to want others to follow in their steps, even if when we don't have a negative relationship with alcohol like they did.

"... and thanking false gods for fixing their minor problems."

He's talking about people preaching certain trends, foods, exercises, habits, as something life-changing that everyone should take up, when really they only change things a little. You see it all the time, people worship sugar-free diets, a certain form of exercise, a celebrity, some phone-app, heck even certain magazines, as something essential in helping you get your life together.

By the way, how did Dustin ruin Andrew Allen footy?

you hit the nail on the head with this response.

it's possible to be a moderate drinker, or even a heavy drinker, and be a functional human being. and false gods (like listed above), or even religion, are not necessary to achieve happiness or success.

Hell you can even be a full blown heroin addict and still be fully functional.

Dustin posted that quote on Instagram I remember reading it, he was posting heaps of PD logos saying stuff, he also said there's nothing wrong with having a few beers

He also posted a pic he took of bunch of half naked chicks snorting blow on a bed in a hotel for lemmy when he died, I screenshoted that before he was told to remove it

why do religious people get butthurt so easily when someone criticizes religious stuff? you guys are probably the same people telling everyone to suck it up and stop being so PC. fucking hypocrites.

Because all of the criticisms have already been made 10,000 times by angry 16 year olds on reddit. Evolution is true, the bible was wrong about a bunch of stuff, the bible is inconsistent, religion causes violence, blah blah blah. Seen it all before.

I'm not religious, and I agree with most of these criticisms, but bashing religion in this way is just so immature and pointless. Especially on Slap, you're preaching to the choir (of mostly non-religious people). If you've got some profound, original shit to say about the societal dangers of religion in the 21st century or something, then by all means say it. But you don't.

Just because you're free to bash religion doesn't mean you should. It makes you seem like a highly intelligent free thinking individual more than it makes religious people seem stupid.

Alcohol is way too embedded in our society to be taken with an absolutist approach.

I think that Americans by nature need to be polemical when something doesn't work - so if alcohol is interfering with their life in a negative way the resolve is to cut it entirely instead of taking a more mature approach of management and discipline, I mean its pretty much the whole yin and yang concept in a nutshell.

I think too if the 'false gods' concept was understood from the get go, people would have been more willing to defend dustin against a guy who puts coprophagia and porn into his videos for absolutely no aesthetic purpose what so ever.

No one did that in this thread and yet people are getting all defensive because of Dollin's comment which was probably not even about organized religion.

False gods can also be a reference to monotheistic beliefs which say you shall have no other gods before the one true god. It's not just a philosophical thing from Nietzsche who probably got the idea from religion anyway.

I think that is the thing though, if you truly are an alcoholic, management and discipline go out the window, it is not possible. I'm from the UK and my best friend is an alcoholic, I have watched him fuck up everything in his life with booze. Lots of other people have watched him do this and still seem to think that one day he will be able to have 5 beers and a few jokes and go home. This is despite watching him fail to do this for the past 15 years. In my belief his only option for leading a happy life is stopping completely. I almost think it would better if it was more like America. Here you have to be drinking every morning or kill a load of people drink driving for people to think you have a problem.

Sure, there a few drama queens that hit the booze hard for 6 months and "go sober" because they have had a few bad hangovers but there are way more people out there with problems that don't get help.

Within skateboarding what we are seeing is a natural progression. As the level continues to rise it becomes less and likely you would be able to maintain a long professional career without really working at it and taking care of your body. It is becoming more like other sports where you have to put in 6-7 hours a day to keep up. People might dislike this and think it is 'jockish' but unless you are insanely talented it is a reality.

I guess no one has actually criticized religion like that, but there were some "I don't need god to be good" type comments. And if Dollin's comment actually is about religion, which isn't super unlikely given that he mentions sobriety in the comment and religion is used to get sober much more than weird health fads, then he's saying this same type of shit.

It's not as direct of a criticism, but its equally immature and also self-rigtheous. I should've included it in that list from my previous comment

That's not self-righteous. There are people who are good despite not believing in god. There are people who quit using drugs, despite not believing in god. This isn't a matter of opinion, its a matter of fact.  The issue that comes up though is that the religious are the best in the world at ignoring facts and logic because of how they feel, not what they know.

Have you guys tried kale leaf suppositories though? Wrap one of those babies around some nutritional yeast, & put it where the sun don't shine. It's like being entered by the Holy Spirit, for your knees.

so Dollin is telling Reynolds to cool it with the ice baths and foam rollers?

OR if Dollin's making fun of that kooky Grec's video, I'll back him
