Funny bootleg gear thread
« on: April 04, 2016, 10:48:25 AM »
I think it's pretty funny seeing bootleg stuff. The other day I found some pictures of janoskis and other shoes made by Chinese manufacturers. Some of them don't even seem that bad.

Good thread. I've seen a bunch of bootleg skate stuff over the years. Back in the day some friends of mine used to go to Thailand every year and if always ask them to buy me bootleg designer stuff like shirts and sunglasses but I'd ask them to buy the most obviously fake stuff that the actual company would never make so when you wore it it was obvious you weren't trying to look like you payed full price but you liked the irony of the shit rip offs.

If I got a dollar for every obviously fake Element shirt or hat I see, I'd own the company. Dad owned a bunch of gross sleeveless shirts. It's endearing when really old men wear the fake caps. A coworker in his early 40s showed up with an Element t-shirt to work. Said he just bought it at the flea market. He tucks his polos into his sweatpants and likes to wear fanny packs. None of these examples are "ha-ha funny", but anyway.

As for the shoes, chances are that the pictures are photoshopped by the sellers. A lot of Chinese sites ban blatant fakes, so the sellers just shoop an extra edge on the swoosh or something like that, all to get around the ban. If you ask any of them about it, they'll own up and say the logo is just edited.

My wife went to China two years ago.  I asked her to buy me a fake watch.  Just for fun.  I was not trying to pass it off as real.  She came back with an Omega Seamaster Ocean, which is like a $5k watch.  She paid $30usd.  It felt nice and heavy and kept perfect time.  After a year or so the battery died.  I brought it to a legit Omega dealer in DC.  I told him I knew it was fake, but asked if he could replace the battery.

He started looking at it, then broke out his tool kit and working on it.  He was very concerned.  Asking me where I got it, etc.  He told me the cosmetic stuff like the band and face were real Omega products, but the insides weren't.  I was stoked.  The thing still works.

Probably better quality and fit than real Vans too.

Ahahah beat me to it!

I always see bootleg stuff around here. There was a time were everyone had those WESC sweaters, all of them fake. Then there was supreme hats and clothing, with the fake red box. Next was nike air force's, almost all of them were fake, you could se they were a bootleg by a mile away. I see a lot of runners now, mainly adidas zx and nike's roshe/am90 oh and yeezy's, those are coming hot now too... Me being a sneaker guy i always laughted at people trying to pass as true original products.

Forgot this was a thing, kinda hilarious
http://www.rippedlaces.com/2014/07/fake-nike-sb-models-look-better-than-the-real-ones/

Those first ones are a koston one upper with an oncore 6.0 sole, soo wierd... I had the oncore's when i was like 13/14 ahah

The BA rip-off isnt a bootleg because it's an oficial nike release, a lame one tho... It's the nike sb ghost.

Stuntin.

I have european crap sports good retail sports-direct.com store in my town, and they also have vans and dc, but none of the shoes resemble anything on their lineup. DC's under logo on tongue have text "trademark". Will post pics later.

Years ago when SB Dunks were super popular someone on the skateboard-city message board started a thread to review a pair of fake dunk mids (I think the money cat ones) as skate shoes as a lot of the skaters who had dunks at the time didn't skate them because they were so expensive and "fresh".

The dude did like one post of review, saying they felt good, like regular dunks and then was never heard from again. I think he got whacked by the big boys at corporate. Just Do It. ;)
