Can I ask you guys a question?
« on: February 02, 2007, 02:02:43 AM »
Here's the question: If "pro" decks actually lasted, maybe, twice as long as the average "blank".... would that make a difference to you guys? Would you pay more for a longer-lasting, more durable product......?

And, I don't mean: Some jackass SAYS it lasts longer. I mean: If it actually did last longer.

That's the question.

I don't know if I'd spend more on a more durable product. Pro or not. Usually in skating more durability means less performance.

I buy pro boards because I can afford them now, of course. Before when I wasn't working full time but still skated a lot, I bought blanks. I think that's the case for many people.

That's the question.

It's not possible. I skate up at EZ7 alot and my main reason for chaning boards isn't because they break but because they get so soggy from going in puddles of shit and my grip tape gets covered in dirt.

I donīt know. Maybe if the pop would last forever. Otherwise Iīd rather skate 2 cheap decks with fresh pop than one deck that doesnīt break but loses pop like a regular deck..
But yeah, I guess if you made a board that lasts twice as long as a normal one and doesnīt lose its pop, then Iīd consider buying one. If I had the money to pay for it...

Until someone can prove to me that there is a way to make a standard skateboard better by using different epoxy's or by laminating the vaneers in a different fashion instead of some wacky new technology then i wont really care.
although some will buy into any gimmick, i know first hand that 99% of the time it doesnt do shit.
ie:new wave technology,fiberlites......
the only weird board i rode that was wayy stronger but still chipped and blew up was a santa cruz powerlyte.
and im not spending $70 on a skateboard.

Uprize/Frontline was working on a board using bamboo plys, I wonder if they had to put that on hold to hire a lawyer after being sued by Uprise.

there's a german company ("cannaboard") that produces boards made of hemp, which supposedly is much more  durable than wood.

I'm quite certain Habitat is using some bamboo in one of their new series.

no.

shape, pop and concave are all more important to me than durability, in that order.

pretty pictures and letters come last.

Hemp doesn't sound like it has much pop. Throughout the years of deck "innovation", things always seem to gravitate back to 7-ply maple.

dear market research man,

durability isn't even an issue.  a lot of those china boards seem like they lose their pop really fast.  That's the biggest issue, just make good shapes that hold their pop and you're good.
