How to remove the paint from your trucks?
« on: December 15, 2016, 03:08:17 AM »
Does anybody have any experience or tips as to how one removes those awful graphics from your trucks. Had to choose between not skating or picking up some white and gold thunder trucks. But they make my setup look like shit.

Read on here a few times people use nail polish remover, maybe paint thinner? Never done it myself.

I don't know who the fuck you're mistaking us for, but the majority of people here skate painted trucks.

Some 80 grit sandpaper should do it.

Put trucks on board. Grind. Smith grind, feeble grind. Grind. Slide. Nose and tail. Just fucking use them. Do you think Lee Ralph would even ask this question? :'(

i'm irish so i'll get used to anything but i rode some royal trux for 2 yrs til the axle got stripped and they had clouds painted on them and slogans too corny for memory but just like graphics don't mean shit i only look at the top of my board.
don't let it get you down but i'm sure lighting them on fire would work. put em in a bucket of gas, don't stand over to light it but get it lit then watch from a comfortable distance. fire can solve most of our problems.

take em apart and soak the hanger and baseplate in acetone overnight. the paint should peel/rub off pretty easy.

You need something else for those. It's very doable though. Google it.

I'm used to restore bikes and I always use paint stripper with water base, that should work for painted trucks, but I'm not sure for tinted trucks

yeah, scissors would be way too time consuming and not consistent enough. i imagine a wire brush bit on a drill could work.

First thing on google says drain cleaner. Or easy off oven cleaner.

I've had some free time this week, so I ended up stripping a pair of black anodized baseplates. They're now raw, but they look like shit. What I didn't know about the anodizing process is that it uses acid to allow the dye to penetrate the aluminum. Take that dye away, you have raw aluminum that looks pretty rugged. I'll post some pics later. If you want to try it, easy off oven cleaner, the yellow can works. Just sprayed, let it sit for a half hour, rinse. What's weird is it stripped the baseplate, yet didn't take the small logo off the hangar.

The logo is probably just painted on. I don't think you can even do such things with anodizing.

I really like the way those turned out, kind of like a tarnished metal look to it now
