quiver thread.....aka unnecessary set up thread....
« on: December 29, 2016, 07:39:37 PM »
when the set up and the cruiser thread just aren't enough.....

I was a one board guy forever but over time I enjoy building them and always intend on using them for something...most of these boards I never use but don't have the heart to take them apart.  I'm not posting on an ipad today so this is reflecting what I'm more so like....

Figured this would be a decent thread...

Quiver 2017 by jefchoy

L-R

1. Clay wheel banana board: my friend gave it to me, I'm going to get some loose ball bearings and pretend I'm Neil Blender....not the first time.

2. Rodney Re-issue w. trackers and copers: unlikely source did the build and was selling it.  I couldn't say no   It's super hard to skate and isn't a good paper weight.  For Rusty I should skate this.  I started to ollie boards to keep my pop and this has come in handy.

3. Zip Zinger, Indy stage 7 or 8's, powell g-slide protos.  This set up is super fun, I totally figured out smaller wheels on this board makes so much more sense.  I had big squishes and it was sketchy.  Those g-slides work super good because you can still ollie but slide tons.  You can hang your feet off on the zip zinger too.  Psyched I found a way to re-purpose skinnier trucks too.

4. Natas 101 re-issue, Indy stage 9 or 10's, ditchtechs.  Realized I didn't have the balls to hang it on my wall.  Stoked to have a set of ditchtechs, I loved those wheels and when I wrote Powell asking why, they sent me the g-slide protos to try.

5. Powell Flight tech 8., full nose, theeve tih's, race reds, 53 STFs: my go to...see set up thread.

6. OG Steve Claar : I had this board stolen when I was in high school but it got stolen.  When my neighbour was moving they were using this board, I offered a brand new set up and the kid gave it to me.  Steve Claar, Indy Stage 5 or 6's, NMBS!, OJ team rides, these insane schmidt slide on rails.  This is when boards were so gnarly....the tail feels like it's like 9 inches long.

7. Jeff Kendall rain board: I found this on the side of the road, felt bad so wrote a note.  No one called for it.  Has powell bombers and thunders.  These trucks don't turn worth shit for this purpose....but they are rusted on.  Rain boards are super fun, it's like you're surfing.

8. FA Kevin Bradley 8.5, Theeve tih's, race reds, SPF 81's.  I made this set up because I got scared everyone was going to skate 8.5's and I would have to conform.  Now I use it when I don't skate parks (never)

9. Magenta board 8.5, thunders, SPF's.  This is my miniramp board, I ride tight trucks on mini so my other trucks don't work.  The wheels are bones but are nice and wide which is not common.

OK....I know there's dudes here who have a room full of set ups....post em...I bet these boards go nowhere so I promise not to repost it for a year.

I like keeping multiple set-ups. Always one "main" though, I like the feel of all sorts of sizes and wheels.

I would like to have a quiver, but I always end up giving my old trucks to my nephews. Pretty much I have a bunch of different decks and wheels that I swap around weekly cause I can never decide what the hell I wanna skate.

not a fan of having more than one board at a time. having just the one eliminates having to decide which board to take. i do want to get a zip zinger set up with 129s and some small softy wheels tho, that seems more fun than anything

I usually have three on the go. Regular board, big tranny board and cruiser.

Middle one is my 'regular board' Polar 8.8", Indy 149s, Conical Wide F4s (about 54mm now). Left is an 8.6" Real, Ace 55s and 57mm F4 classics- for parks/ bigger tranny. Right is the cruiser, Deck Crafters 8.75", Ace 44s and Ricta 86a 58mm. The Ricta 86a and Ace 44 combo is heavenly cruising...I'm trying to use up a bunch of old shit I have lying around before setting up anything new.

Current whips. Yes there's a downhill setup, deal with it :) can't beat a long wheelbase and massive wheels for long mountain roads

EW 9.5x37/22" wb, Indy 159, 1/4 riser, 73mm/82a, swiss
BA 9.25, Theeve TiH 5.5, 1/8 riser, speedlab 60mm/ 100a, swiss
Scumco 8.75, Theeve tiax 5.25, 1/8 riser, OJ hot juice 60mm/78a, bronson
SM 8.25, Ace 44, Bones STF 54, swiss

Setups are always evolving, I have some ideas for another setup or two, just need more bearings

All I have is my main set up and a cruiser, but for the first time in my life I'm trying to have a rotation with shoes rather than just skate one designated pair. A vulc, a cupsole, and a hybrid of the two for whatever I'm feeling. Makes me feel like a rich kid or something.  ;D

From left to right:

8" Theories Of Atlantis with 139 indys, for street skating on summer
8,125" Klapi (local brand) with 8.0 fury evos and bones atf's, cruiser board
Sweet Skateboards cruiser i got super cheap, tried it once and it's been sitting in corner since, mostly because of crappy bearings and wheels
8,3" Palace with indy baseplates and bushings and fury evo2 8,25" hangers, indoor season board
europe's like the capitol of england and france and whatever

It sucks getting old.

Your indoor/outdoor set ups are the opposite of mine I think.....

These are sick....I don't really collect skate stuff so this is the closest thing....when I had a garage I had a 2' quarter and it was fun just skating different boards....

That's pretty much what I meant by their low prices.

where else in Canada can you find an american branded deck on sale for 40$ in the middle of the summer ? The staff that actually skate are really nice, but one of the owners can be a huge douche at times... Still, they do a lot for the local scene so they'll always have my money.

OIC I knew they were good people to deal with just by seeing their website :P people don't realize how much money they lose with crappy webstores!

I try to buy semi-local, but like you said, if they've got the goods your looking for.. Its good to hear their good people though (besides the owner).

Good but it's winter skate season so it's not getting a ton of abuse.....the major differences I'm finding more so just relate to it being a different woodshop.....not really mind blowing....

Its got a bit of flex to it which is rad but I can't say it really affects the performance......I have a feeling it'll stay feeling fresh but the main thing will be the razor tail which because everything I'm skating is super polished...isn't really a factor yet....
