yes ive gone there...shockpads/risers help
« on: January 02, 2017, 11:03:26 PM »
anyone know of any risers/shockpads that fit indy baseplates and holes perfect?

i got some theeve shockpads(i know cause theyre nice, soft and firm  ;) ) that fit perfectly on my indy to where they dont stick out on the front or back or sides at all so the ocd of them messing with my slides isnt there, thats why i started this post

all my risers EXCEPT the theeves stick out on the front or are kinda receded on the front and i dont like the way that looks, so anyone got or know any risers that are the perfect dimensions of indy baseplates and fit perfect besides theeve? maybe the new indy shock pads but lemme get some feedback on this kooky post of mine

I have cut mine also, i just set them up and used sharp blade to cut off any parts that stick out, that plastic isn't that hard after all.

fuck yeah, finally a riser pad thread!

i like the bones ones you can slide up and down into the perfect position. not sure if they do the softer shock pad type though.

Install Indy shock pads and cut the excess off with a razor blade

Do the rubber pads really make a difference? More comfortable? Less vibration? I don't really have an issue with pressure cracks.

anyone know of any risers/shockpads that fit indy baseplates and holes perfect?

Mini logos fit perfect in my experience.

FYI.  The 0.10 rubber ones are stiffer than Indy shock pads though.

Saw this a while back from Paul Schmitt, so a couple dudes use them
Quote
@MichaelPulizzi a #Teamrider for @PizzaSkateboards showing his setup, a few weeks ago he added an 1/8" #RiserPad to increase the windup on his Ollie just like @CodyMcEntire does.
This soft plastic riser also decreases his shock on landings
The wind up on your Ollie is increased by adding Riser Pads, Taller Wheels, Higher Trucks, A Deck with less fingers of flat from the truck holes to the bend, Steeper Tail in your setup

Cool, I'm gonna check out the bones and Indy ones. Probably gonna have to settle on cutting some to try til I hit the shop.

Since I'm back to riding my Indy lows the shock pads help give a tiny bit of height and from my east coast days I remember using shock pads all the time and I felt they helped me get around the rough grounds smoother, legitimately I feel they did reduce the vibration and cushion my hard stomp lands some. You still get pressure cracks but the landings do feel softer and your board makes less rattle and noise

ahaha i cant, i think im banned(not literally) for my on going rant and posts about what trucks are best and in the end going back to indy lows(which i did post and talk about a lot a few months ago and how good they are to which i was loyal to)

the indy shock pads with indys does sound obvious but idk some companies just make risers that dont even fit indys, ace, venture, and other trucks that have the standard hole placement of today and it gets me thinking if indy even makes risers to precisely fit their own trucks.

cause seriously, how is it that some to most risers dont fit perfectly on indys, the standard goto truck that they claim preferred by the pros.
diamond risers dont even fit perfect on for aces.

Indys fit perfectly. if you're using shock pads though they're going to smash and will stick out beneath the baseplate.

thanks dwarf i am definitely getting some indy shock pads then, i dont mind the squish too much if they fit perfect and do their job absorbing some shock/rattle and dampening my lands.

so far so good though with the current theeve shock pads on my indys, the board doesnt clunk so loud and hard so they work. a really nice soft sound of the board. relief.

How do you not get satisfaction out of hearing a crisp loud deck when popping? Why the fuck would you wanna soften it and make it sound waterlogged? Why are you riding low trucks and then using risers? You're fucking up big time rob. Big time.

Haha easy, they aren't risers, they're shock pads. They're soft and help absorb some of the vibration when you cruise in rough areas.

The shock pads barely give any height, when they squish out some they barely give an 1/8 of an inch I think, I just wanna use the shock pads mainly to soften the pop and clunk of the board. Idk I like it better cause the clunk loud sounds of my board make me feel like the boards too stiff and hard.

I ride lows cause they help me pop better. Everyone's different. Some people like that tall distance of the tip of the tail to the ground cause they need that feel in their pop but me, I like the quickness of the tail tapping the ground, I think cause I rely more on my front foot sliding up more than how hard I pop cause my right foot/leg probably reacts faster than my left.

I would say Indy lows are like a mm or 2 lower than thunder 147/145 hi and the shock pads with the Indy lows just make them almost thunder hi height

Last thing, the Indy low feel more stable cause I feel the standard tall indy's pivot stem is what makes them feel unstable to me. Yeah it helps indy's turn faster than the stage 10 predecessor but the cost of a quicker deeper turn has to mean a loss in stability. So yeah. I like the feel of lows. And shock pads help soften the harsh streets.

I've used every combination of shock pads, risers, no risers, shock pads/risers out of every material (even the aluminum "Stiffies"). I do not see any benefit to using soft shock pads. By the time they are set up properly (i.e., cranked down so the screw head is flush), they are so compressed that you will lose any benefit of shock absorption.

The only method that I thought worked was cutting an old inner tube under a short riser. Even then, compressed at less than 1mm thick, there was probably very little shock absorption. You are better off riding softer wheels. Wheels are the main factor when determining rolling resistance and ride quality of roads.

I understand that, that's why I ride bones stf's

If you actually ride them you'll notice they have this soft feel, I've tried spit classics, f4's, oj, ricta, gold, and pig and none were as quality as bones years of experience in wheel making.

I feel like they reduce my wheel bite, puts just a little extra room between wheels and the board.

Why do you want riser pads? More pop? I've skated for over ten years now and I still don't know the purpose of them haha and also if anyone wants to fill me in on the purpose of washers that'd be cool too lol
