I'm riding 53's right now but I usually stay within that 52-54mm range. To me the 54's are better for skating rough terrain & tranny while the 52's flip better and feel more suitable for tech skating. It's a subtle but noticeable difference I think.

Nobody has explained their preference for those garbage little wheels yet. Do you like not going as fast? Do you like not being able to skate as many spots? Every trick that can be done on small wheels can be done on big ones...why would you skate little ones? Seriously don't understand it at all

What so people can't have preferences anymore?
That 50-54mm range is probably the most common for the typical street setup, including most people on here. You think Busenitz needs 56mm wheels to go as fast as you do?

Some kid in Brazil is probably hauling ass down some fucked up  hill in mismatch Silver trucks & 49mm Mini Logo wheels,  shitting on your entire arguement as we speak. Some people just prefer a more low profile, responsive ride & that's what works for hem

You don't even be in the shoes or setup threads with the real hardware nerds, why so outspoken now? You ain't skating that fast to be on your Internet high horse, miss me with that wannabe skate-macho old head bullshit

I'm a westerner that just spent 1 & half year living in the slums of Brazil and I can guarantee you that kids are bombing the roughest hills with mismatch silver trucks, 49mm mini logo wheels, wal-mart shaped decks, barefooted.

54 is a little too big for me. Gives me too much leverage/easier to kick the tail, so I can hardly ride without kicking up the nose. 52 provides less leverage and just works for me. Maybe it's because I've grown even more since I used to skate, and have big feet, but it's harder to stay on the board these days.

Changing only the wheel size will decrease your mechanical advantage. It takes more effort to hit the tail, but you can potentially pop higher. A better solution to work out leverage is to experiment with different tail sizes, and more importantly, decks with different geometries (or flat space between the truck and beginning of kick).

Sounds like you need to ride bigger decks

I like being lower so I always go for 52s to hit the 48ish mark quicker. The ground here isn't too bad so I don't really have the problem of skating on boulders
