Han solo blew up the Death Star in Episode 4.  Heard it from a friend.  Reliable source.

What kind of recording setup are you using man? If you can see it, it;s recordable... especially something analog like tape.

Sony really sucks for trying to transfer anything with Macrovision.  That's my guess for what is fucking up your attempt to record.  I bought a macrovision descrambler in Hong Kong, but it didn't work (I was trying to transfer Transworld's Greatest Hits).  I don't know if you'd have better luck with a different brand.  I'll see what I can find.

I picked up one of these ten years ago. You can actually sort of edit with it. Anyway, if you're ever stuck with a problem again, these would be another remedy. You can get them dirt cheap these days.

The problem with DVD's and VHS copy protection is the VITC blanking encoded, where it scrambles every other recorded interlaced line. These things bypass it, and are always an easy dub.

You could always buy a recorder at Wal Mart, then return it later saying it was just a bad product.
