Ben K look way more post-punk than skinhead. Baggy pants? low top docs? thats not skinhead shit. also, refer to previous comments about original skinheads; there are plenty of people of all races that are into the traditional skinhead scene. The shit originally came from a love of Reggae and Ska...they were basically trying to be black or mod,but from an English working class angle. Manolo is talking out of his ass.
Must be a city to city situation. Up there in NYC he might look post-punk or whatever but he dresses as a Skin by almost any other cities definition. Straight up, we've even already had this thread. Doc Martens low or hi are Skin gear. Flooded pants, shaved head. All he's missing is braces (suspenders) and Fred Perry instead of Supreme. Even when Ben's not in Doc's he has hi-top all black Vans and black socks. He knows exactly what look he's going for.
I do not say this as a bad thing at all. Ben is lucky because if he got stepped to by a person of color he could whip out his iphone and show them on WIKI Skin's entire history, including Black Skins, colors of laces/braces, and how they mostly aren't racist...
In High School this girl was a Trad Skin. Bomber Jacket, boots, the works. This was 20+ years ago when Skins were getting it bad (Geraldo, American History X) She carried around this little History of Skinhead book and had to show it to Goddamn everybody so they could cool it before beating her up. But like Ben, she took that risk. Never got beat up thankfully, but close to it several times.
I didn't see all the drama before it got deleted, and I don't care because it being deleted was probably everyone realizing how dumb of an argument it was.
Carry on... Fuck Screwdriver, Nazi Punks Fuck Off, etc...
