Back to football, I can imagine OldieButFrenchie being pissed they lost out on Ayoub Bouadd. He's pretty sensational man. I heard a pundit back here in The Netherlands rave about him before the WC had even started, and he was bang on. 18 years old; must be nice knowing he'll be playing for your country for the next two decades.

I picked a draw in my prediction pool that I got with some colleagues, but because I'm an idiot I changed it to a Brazil win last minute.

Iran-NZ was a good game. Pretty open and good chances on both sides.

Also, with regard to Holland, I think the Japan game was a perfect illustration of why we'll not make it past (at the very, very best) QF. A little quality lacking upfront, defensively not as great as the names and clubs might suggest. But most importantly Koeman just lacks a bit of everything. He's tactically okay, but just lacks in bravery and leadership.

Those substitutions were fucking ridiculous, and for some unknown reason he still has a hard on for Depay. Not that Depay is what lost us the win at the end, but he's just so obviously past his prime that it's getting ridiculous that Koeman just can't see/admit that. Also, Frimpong should have been included in the squad. Koeman's a really frustrating idiot sometimes. Not unlikeable or bad enough to actively want him to fuck off, but not likeable and good enough to make me want him to stay (or get the job in the first place). Fly in van Gaal dudes.

The South Korean team is boycotting Korean media because a couple Korean reporters got caught on a hot mic talking trash about Son. I support them. Why would you slander your own country's team like that? Just pure hater energy that deserves a comeuppance. On the plus side, I think it might help team morale.

FFF's recruitment model has changed to finding people in former colonies who could qualify, to simply combing their own cities to find French-speaking naturalized citizens or immigrants they then naturalize. Its strictly a matter of population inflow.

I mean it is completely, factually correct to say that at this juncture the suburbs of Paris are the single more fertile ground for top-flight football prospects at the moment and it really isnt close.

WHY do you feel the need to speak up on a subject that you obviously know nothing about.....
and where do you get your info, Fox News? That is some Trump level fake shit. This is exactly why I get heated on the subject, so much misinformation it's maddening. seriously, the French federation "finding people in former colonies"?? Who? When?

First off, being born in France and living there qualifies you AUTOMATICALLY  to citizenship. I should know how this stuff works, I was born outside France from non-French parents, and I WAS naturalized!
This should be easy for Americans to understand, you guys have the same law. Being born in the US gives you citizenship, well it's the same in France! The French federation never had to "look for gifted players to naturalize", the kids are all French to begin with.
The truth is that A LOT of people seem to have a hard time accepting the idea of a black Frenchman, but France had black and mixed members of parliament way back in 1793, at the time of the Revolution.... (Jean-Baptiste Belley, Jean-Baptiste Mills).

Please fuck off. You are persistently the most insufferable cunt around here and you completely misunderstood what I said. Youre a dumb fucking cocksucker of the highest order. Comparing me to Trump for simply noting that for ages the objective truth (and, nowhere did I say it was a bad or wrong strategy, mind you considering how many of these exact footballers I have historically loved)  Ligue 1 and thereby the FFF by proxy did what it could to recruit players from former French colonies proves you're a fucking weirdo with a mental illness. Call 988 for help. I had you blocked and I regret looking at what you said. Someone take away your fucking device and get you some help.

edit: I just re-read this and its fucking WILD you didnt know what it means to immigrate to France and then naturalize. Next time Im over Im calling you and hopefully I can punch you in the fucking mouth.

Anyway, back to earth and normal fucking conversation.

This France game proves they can still pull the strings at any moment. Ive always thought highly of Olise but those two balls into Mbappe were otherworldly.

Always been a big Rabiot supporter (usually the first shirt I buy whenever new FFF stuff drops) and his ball to Bradley wasnt quite as sublime but equally as deft. Its just one game but.....oh shit Senegal just scored as I typed this.

Well, PSG is the most obvious example but no one has heard much from her with his stints at Juve, Marseille, or Milan. They're very close and she fiercely looks out for his best interests against these mega rich mega clubs. Nothing wrong with that.

Okay, that's it. Olise is my new favorite player when Messi retires. He's just extraordinary (when Deschamps lets him play!). And I like that he's apparently pretty well know for being quite shy and introverted. He's basically Messi and Mbappe combined.

PETITION TO MERGE THIS THREAD WITH THE SOCCER (FOOTBALL) THREAD.

There's two different threads going on now, but they're exactly the same. They're both just a hangout for cool people shooting the shit over (one of) the best thing(s) in the world: football. If you're usually not a football fan, but have been paying some attention/taken some interest in the World Cup 2026, I have some great news for you; you are now a football fan, and you're welcome in the other thread if you fancy.

I've just realised that I always assumed everyone in the other thread 'was from' (born and raised) anywhere in the world except the U.S. and Canada. Equal parts funny and embarassing.

OK that France Senegal was good! but I had flashbacks of our 2002 opening game defeat in the first half....so very tense viewing in the beginning.

Seems the Mbappe/Olise combo could do wonders, perfect combo of passing genius and speed merchant. So I'm quite hopeful for the rest of the WC, we'll see. Rabiot had an excellent game too. Barcola can be deadly when he comes off the bench vs a tired opposition. As for Mbappe. Holy shit that second goal....what else is there to say. Truly a phenom...And after a dreadful first half too!

Oh and about Bouaddi, to @ThatIsNotCricket : can you believe he's already played 100 ligue 1 games?? At 18! Plus he's studying for a science degree or something at the same time. Unbelievable.

What the fuck?!?! I thought you meant he was at some point studying for a degree, but chose professional football along the way, because that's his calling. Nothing of the sort; he's doing a BA in mathematics. Plus he's won some sort of Eloquency in French Football prize.

It's a tie between Olise and Bouaddi at the moment now, knowing all this. Just my luck that I don't live that far from Lille, and he'll probably go to an elite club after this World Cup.
