Chances are, if you support your local club, they're probably shit on a national level, not to mention international. And that's the way it is, you support them through thick and thin, relegation and promotion. That's what I love about European football. There's only about 30 clubs that play CL regularly or semi-regularly, the rest of the continent play in far less glamorous competitions, often never getting a chance to play internationally. And people don't care. Where else, and in which other sport could a 3rd tier club have support like this

So when some sheik or tycoon comes along and bankrolls a mediocre club in order to "make them great", you best believe that all the shit talking is warranted.

Doesn't that last point go against everything you just said though? The support doesn't dictate who owns the club. The 40,000 there would be just as happy to see their club in the Champions League as any devout City follower was. I understand that it's totally admirable that the passion's still there in a sporting culture that's been otherwise totally ruined by money, but if a billionaire does decide to give them an expensive leg up they'd be fools not to embrace it.

Also I feel like every team needs to step their singing game up to the Argies' level. Shit's awesome.

The point I was trying to make was that success that has been bought overnight is alienating to most football fans. I'm sure a lot of Man C fans are disgusted by the way their club is being treated by it's owners, e.g. a toy. Of course it's hard not to be excited by the first success in decades but when it's done in such fashion it's sickening.

clubs like chelsea and man city don't deserve shit.

Oh?  And what entitled club do you support?

I'm not from england, but I wish the best for Tottenham and arsenal.  They don't wish the best for each other tho.

As a young boy bergkamp was my favorite football player.
and for tottenham, I just like the club.

I just don't have any feelings for chelsea, man city and manU.

Ajax is my club and I'm happy they're almost going to the next round in the champ. league.

way to go tottenham. and tim Krul was a BEAST.

So because a Dutch player you liked played for Arsenal means Man City and Chelsea don't deserve shit?  I see.

To support a club like arsenal but then call manchester city or chelsea undeserving is kinda ridiculous. Arsenal's parent company (this courtesy of a quick wiki research) is 99.5% owned by two billionaires, one of whom owns about 5 other sports teams and is married to the daughter of Bud Walton, founder of wal-mart. It's unfortunate, but with football being such a huge business its inevitable that money will come to dominate the game; splitting hairs between a team owned by a multi-millionaire and one owned by a multi-billionaire makes no sense, the only difference is in the degree of expendable income they choose to waste on the club. As a neutral, I "support" (i.e. watch their games on the internet, not actually giving them any money) whichever team plays the most entertaining football, in full recognition that most of their players and officials are rich assholes that I have nothing in common with. I have to give mad respect to teams like Athletic Bilbao however, for doing reasonably well in the top league in the country only using Basque players. When I visited Bilbao the support they had was intense so I guess that aspect of football isn't entirely dead.

good game for germany, but there was no van persie, robben, van der vaart and affelay. and our first left back was injured too and our second left back is as you can see, terrible.

I think with both squads on full strength it would've been a different game. Nontheless germany wooped hollands ass hard. We'll see next summer.

as a man united fan, i'm really not looking forward to watching them on channel 5 on thursday nights. this shouldn't have happened, fergie really needs to accept that we need some type of wesley snjieder type player in central midfield.

2 legit goals from ajax got called offside. and lyon won by 7-1 in zagreb.

this was after the 5-1:

a zagreb defender puts his thump up and blinks with one eye to attacker gomis from lyon...

and look how suprisingly easy lyon scores goal after goal.

http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2011/12/07/dinamo-zagreb-vs-lyon-1-7-highlights-video-champions-league-ol-goals-gomis/

I don't believe this was legal.

Do you think Real Madrid somehow paid off their referees as well? Legit goals get called offside all the time; it's pretty easy for a ref to do when faced with a close call and no time to access replays to figure out which way you should go. Also, Real Madrid were through on the top of their group anyway so i doubt they would even bother (granted I haven't seen the game yet so I'm making blind judgments here).

The Lyon-Zagreb game does look a bit suspicious, however. Then again, what kind of idiot would wink and give the thumbs up to the opposing team with tv cameras all around if they actually were getting paid to throw the game.

I want Kevin Gro?kreutz to go to Arsenal.

Actually, there are a number of Borussia Dortmund players that I could totally picture being on Arsenal.

Hopefully this will set the tone for his brief stay at Arsenal.

Even though it was against a shitty Leeds United side, that was some grown man shit right there. Showed the little boys how to properly finish.

Like an old legendary gunslinger being pulled out of retirement (sorta) to settle one final score.
