never saw this thread. pretty hyped.

i only care about 3 teams: atletico, hibs, and newcastle.

both hibs and atletico got off to a hot start.

newcastle... room for improvement. cmon magpies!

note: die hard atletico fan. pre two time europa/uefa cup triumphs. glad to see us getting some silverware. let's just hope we don't sell falcao. but i've become used to that... kun, torres, forlan... fuck.

What do you think of vurnon anita so far?

a lot of promise!
their team is like that too. between players like santon, ba, anita, ben arfa, gutierrez, p. cisse... there's no reason why they shouldn't be putting in a strong fight for CL again this season.

edit: obertan too... that kid will be good in the future. ribery-esque

Not bad for an international break.  The final round is set for the CONCACAFAFFA round robin.  What happened Canada  ????  USA topped their group but were not impressive at all.  I was feeling nervous about our chances in the round robin until I saw that the fourth place team (out of 6) gets a playoff against New Zealand.  I guess this time they did a draw for intercontinental playoffs at the end of qualifying with a team from Asia, Oceania, South and North America.  CONCACAF dodged a fourth placed South American side.

As far as Europe...Portugal look to be in danger of another playoff with Russia steam rolling through that group.  Belgium also look really exciting.

Any other Americans get FSC in HD for the first time two days ago?  Fucking finally.

Haha.  Everytime I get really upset about the international break I try to console myself with the fact that American football fans only get 17 games a season a bye week.  It usually doesn't help much.

There were a couple of excellent games this international break though. I would urge you to watch the Germany 4 - Sweden 4 if you haven't already or Chile 1 - Argentina 2.

Here's Messi's free kick against Uruguay from last week. Amazing placement on the shot.

The worst thing about these breaks for me is the lethargic performances and injury troubles that most of the big teams seem to to have at the end of it due to 3/4 of their squad being out on international duty. That and all the idiotic fluff that soccer media outlets make up in order to fill space and get hits when there's nothing going on.

There is also typically horrible coverage of the international break in USA.  It's even difficult to see our own country play away games now do to some bullshit TV deal.  We'll get a few CONMEBOL games in Spanish at night.  The only option for UEFA is the online only Espn3 during the middle of work for the Friday and Tuesday games.  So the international break sucks dick.

Somebody pinch me.

Jack Wilshere apparently in the squad for Norwich tomorrow. They'll probably throw him in around the 60 minute mark and let him run around.

On a second thought, that might be a little too optimistic of me. Sorry. My guess? Maybe he'll get thrown in around the 89th minute to waste time.

Stoked nonetheless.

That should leave him plenty of time to get injured again.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Mata has took over Silvas role of the most exciting creative midfielder in the league. He's a pleasure I watch.

Oh god Arsenal, what are you doing? Losing 1-0 to Norwich, even in an away game, is an atrocious result. They just better hope that they end up with more points than tottenham this year or Arsene may end up getting thrown under the bus.

On the bright side look at all these goals this weekend! Tottenham v. Chelsea 2-4, Man U v. Stoke 4-2, Deportivo v. Barcelona 4-5. I guess I won't be doing any homework today...

Arsenal match today....a cringe worthy performance.

You ever have those dreams where you're in some kind of fight, but you're in slow motion while the person you're fighting is in normal speed? Yeah. It was like that. Absolute frustration.

And when have Arsenal ever been dangerous from long ball play? I'm not saying we should build our team around that style of play like Stoke, but at least look dangerous from corners and shit for fucks sake.

Chelsea, now that is a mouth watering side. Excellent match against Spurs.

Great goal by Pogba.  Mark how was the game? Did Napoli threaten much?

As for the Leeds "fan", he is from Cheltenham, nowhere near Leeds, and was already banned from every ground in the UK.  "Court heard thug drank cans of lager and three quarters of a litre of vodka before arriving at the match.  Once in Sheffield he downed up to ten pints of cider"  He claimed he was completely blacked out.

English teams are really struggling in the CL.  I think it's partly because of their open play.  Way to open and if other teams have a good midfield they will pick you apart.  Dortmund looks impressive too. Marco Reus is the future of German Football, if not the present.

Fuck. Yes.

It's not often that champions league day does anything other than confirm all your worst suspicions about "the modern game". Today is a great day for the small(er) clubs, and for anyone that hates Roberto Mancini and his floppy hair.

Honestly though, Mancini does not know what he is doing with that three at the back system; his players clearly don't like it and I've yet to see it work for them offensively or defensively. If he can't figure out how to beat good teams on the road he's gonna be on the next plane back to Italy.

YES!

I was in the stadium and it was amazing.
But to be honest, I expected more from city. I thought they were going to play more attacking.
And can someone tell me why they leave so much space on the sides for our full-backs to come up?

Reus is amazing. However, I didn't find him that impressive last night. He certainly needs to step his consistency-game up a little. Goetze's far ahead of him in that respect.

That Chelsea Utd fixture left me feeling physically sick. Had to turn it off at the 93rd minute.
